I plan to wall-mount my bookshelf speakers when they come in. What's the best height to set them at? Usually I jsut wall-mount my speakers up high but would it be better to mount them lower? If I mount them like I usually do then they are a little over a foor abover the TV which stands at about 5'4". By My estimates I'd say maybe a little udner 7 feeet up the wall is where the speakers would be positioned.
These are for my two MAINS By the way.

Ideally you want most speakers with the tweeter at about ear height. If this is not possible, angle the speakers towars the listening position (except for surrounds). Generally ,it's not a good idea to wall mount speakers as well.

Good Info. So my next question then is, Why is Wall mounting bad?
If I decide to use speakers stands then is there a difference in quality or can i get something cheap? IT'll be hard NOT to Wall-mount them because my TV takes up a good amount of room on one end of the room. Then I have 4 thin DVD book-cases on one corner and a small 4 drawer container in the other for remotes and spare wires and such. If It makes a big difference then I am willing to do some re-arranging however.

Most bookshelf speakers are bass reflex, with a port in the back. It needs room behind the speaker.
Then there's the problem of smearing the sound by putting it so close to a wall. You'll basically have zero imaging.

How much room from the wall should the speakers have?

Sorry to derail the thread, but how should the surrounds be angled, or not angled? Just straight at your ear?
Just wondering because i'm about to make some DIY stands for some book shelf speakers (surrounds).
Thanks

Putting speakers up against the wall can negatively impact imaging, but more importantly it really boosts the bass output. You want inches at minimum, preferably at least a foot, ideally several feet.

This depends on the system use. For HT, follow dolby's placement recommendation which is to the side or slightly behind, and a couple feet above the listening position aimed horizontally at each other above the listening position, not aimed down at the listening position.
IF you are into multichannel music and that's important to you, I'd go more with ITU type recommendations which are at ear height, and generally more to the behind a bit in an equal circle as the rest of the speakers.
Alright, Can I ask another question then? Any good recommendations on how to set up speakers away from the wall? Preferably the cheapest solutions?

I use these stands (http://www.wood-tech.com/). Cheap enough, and they look good.
Thanks a lot guys. You've been a lot of help.
