OK, I've recently integrated a Crystalio 2 processor and HD sources into my system and need to calibrate the system for the pj and various sources.

As for my system I have a BR, HDDVD, D-VHS and DVD players as sources and they are all connected via HDMI to my Halcro AVP, another HDMI cable from AVP to the C2 and finally to the projector with an HDMI>DVI cable.

I've access to a Colorfacts Pro and Accupel signal generator which I used couple times before but I'm really not a calibration expert. So, I need some tips on how and where to start as things are bit more complicated.

- My pj doesn't have advanced calibration tools such as gamma, separate RGB gain/bias controls, just the usual stuff: Brightness, contrast, etc.
So, should I leave the pj settings at their defaults and calibrate the output of the C2 with full adjustments or should I just plug the Accupel into the pj make available adjustmnets and leave the output profile adjustments at their defaults on C2? BTW, C2 has pretty good set of test patterns.

- As for calibrating the sources, I believe I should calibrate each source separately with the C2 adjustments with DVE or Avia disks and save a "video profile" for each source, since all the sources come to C2 with only one input or should I make the adjustments on the sources as the BR and HDVD players have their own adjustments?

I'd very much appreciate if you could give some tips and suggestions for the best and easiest way to calibrate my system.

Murat,

Ultimately you will need to determine where the best place to make the adjustments for the system are. In general, the type of system that you are calibrating is not for beginners as it has many variables that need to be tested to determine the best way for the adjustment.

In calibrating the system I would more than likely start with optimization of the projector to a known source at it's native rate. From there I would then work my way to the Crystalio, then to each source going into the Crystalio. It is important to keep in mind that while the Crystalio does include a significant amount of adjustment you do not over stress the processing. If the grayscale can be calibrated in the projector, and produces less artifacts than the Crystalio, you should calibrate it there.

Often, when using a processor to adjust the video signal, bit depth issues come into play causing artifacts in the image such as contouring/banding. Be aware of these in making your adjustments.

Good Pictures! :)
