Will an HDMI cable from the dvd audio player to the receiver carry each of the 5.1 discrete channels needed or do I "have" to run 6 multi channel audio connects?
I know that toslink and coax does NOT carry this signal, is this correct?
Please help me with setup, thanks!
Already answered by others in "Surround Music Formats", but...
HDMI can do it, if both ends are HDMI 1.1; but even then it still depends on your equipment. In practice, all current players and receivers I'm aware of that do any audio over HDMI can do DVD-Audio. Super Audio CD with HDMI 1.2 is where implementation is currently extremely patchy.

Do not use hdmi for 5.1 audio , Use analog connections to avoid problems...
