I have a samsung dlp rear projection and have noticed when watching someone is a white shirt or uniform I loose all detail. It looks like the shirt is almost glowing. I believe this is called white crush. How do I fix this? I have tried the user menu - contrast and brightness - with no luck. Does anyone have a service menu tweak that could fix this?

Thanks

This is definitely a problem with contrast being set too high. The range of adjustment of the user control must be insufficient. There is an control in the SM (I think it is called sub-contrast) for changing this range of adjustment, but I don't know where it is. Sorry.

IT may also be a source issue, as well as a content issue. To check to see if your system is clipping, use full range ramps patterns or similar from DVE or GetGray disc. This will reveal if your system is clipping, or if it's just a content-specific problem. It may be that the source device is clipping, this is not uncommon unfortunately. If you can't avoid the clipping by lower brightness/contrast, it's likely not the display's fault.

Sometimes DVD players with picture controls do their own crushing ... at default settings ... cheack there too.
