I've got a 1930CI hooked up to a AVR-2807 with the 5.1 channel outputs/inputs for SACD (you can't really hook it up any other way for SACD, right?). How do I get the subwoofer in on the action with 2 channel recordings? I've got my speakers set to small and subwoofer to on with the AVR.

I thought that when you use the 5.1 inputs that the receiver doesn't really do any redirection and just sends each channel to where its told to go, but theres got to be a way to get some bass to the subwoofer or I'm going to be listening to 16 Hz organ tones through the 7" driver in my B&Ws which isn't very fulfilling.

It's up to the player to do the bass redirection when you're using the 5.1 analogue connection, whether it's a stereo or multichannel disc. The receiver doesn't process those inputs, it just passes them straight to the amplifier stages. Make sure you've configured speakers to small in the player.

You either set the speakers to SMALL in the player or you use it's "Bass Enhancer" feature (also in the setup) if your speakers are set to LARGE in the player.

The "Bass Enhancer" feature is similar to a "LFE+Main" or "LFE Plus" setting in a receiver in that, when the front speakers are set to LARGE, it will send redundant bass below the crossover setting to the subwoofer, too.

However, if you set your speakers up as SMALL in the player, you don't need to use the "Bass Enhancer" (in fact it's non-functional if the speakers are set to SMALL) as the bass below the crossover setting will be routed to the subwoofer anyway.

That did it, I thought I'd already tried it but I'd just set everything to small in the player for digital output, had to set it separately for analogue output.

Thanks for the help. :)

The player's settings do not affect the digital output; only the analog output. The digital signal fed to the receiver is unadulterated. It's the receiver's settings which are then applied to the digital input.
