The review sounds about right. I wasn't expecting much in the visuals department anyways (knew that some would complain of "drab colors" and such).

Liked the film. Definite purchase :) .

Agreed...less than it seems it should have been.
The scenes where its snowing look pretty 3-d though.

I think its really decent to be honest.
I think some people have a downer on this movie.
But i think its a decent transfer and a decent movie.
Way better than the sd version so im happy.
Lets put it this way..Ive seen far worse.
Check out Identity...
Superb transfer in my opinion.

I like this Movie

Having this and Excalibur on HD-DVD it's great to have the two best King Aurthur movies on HD so early in the game.

As long as it's an uppgrade over SD-DVD I'll enjoy it.

I watched it this morning and was a bit underwhelmed. If they were going for a dreary look, they succeeded mightily. I'd hoped it would of been a prettier film.

My only real disappointment with this movie is that it says 24bit audio on the back and it turns out it is only 16bit.

I thought the movie looked pretty darn good. As usual, my BD discs look better than they do in theatres.

P.S. My favorite part was seeing the preview at the beginning with Sin City and Apocalypto.

Same here. This is miles and miles above what the SD ever looked or sounded like. I'm a happy camper. :)

Watched this last night for the first time, had it for quite awhile I kept pushing it back. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It isn't as bad as the critics made out, but it also isn't one of the stronger historical epics released during the 21 century.

This site which i trust gives a pretty good review....Doesn't seem that consistent a transfer.

The site also has pictures of the transfer which you can click.

The pq wasn't too bad but I was referring more to the story.

Other thread I started got closed. All I'm really interested in knowing, is if people find this to be a worthy upgrade from the DVD? So far it seems people are saying the transfer isn't really all that bad. It may have some issues, but people are saying they seem to think it is a worthwhile enough upgrade from the DVD. Just wanted some opinion before I possibly return it today.

I remember the BD as a nice one, PQ and AQ wise. Not perfect, but very decent HD nonetheless. But my memory may be wrong...

That's what the average person has been sort of saying. Not a great HD experience, but certainly a 'decent' one nonetheless. I may hold on to this. Other opinions please if anyone has 'em!

IMO, aside from a bit of EE, this is a great looking title, with no DNR and nice compression job.

While not reference its still a good looking movie (but sporadic) very sharp and detailed and then too soft at times. But it has its own visual style (dark and moody) and I think the BD gets it right, besides the EE I think it matches the theatrical experience 99%. Definitely an upgrade from the DVD. And the sound alone is almost reason to get this by itself. And while the story lacks a bit its still a decent romp.

It's an odd-looking transfer alright. It seems to jump back and forth between superb and not very good at all, often between shots in the same scene. The good stuff certainly outweighs the bad, but there are some shots that leave me scratching my head as to what happened to them (we're talking worse-looking than GLADIATOR in places). The same title that has shots looking like this:

http://whiggles.landofwhimsy.com/hdcaptures/ka9.jpg

and this:

http://whiggles.landofwhimsy.com/hdcaptures/ka2.jpg

also has shots that look like this:

http://whiggles.landofwhimsy.com/hdcaptures/ka7.jpg

Go figure.

And yeah, the film itself is pretty iffy.

The first two shots look great, the third... not so much. But it's not Gladiator bad either. My guess is that this HD master was made with DVD in mind and they filtered out a few areas that would lead to too much artifacting. But that's pure supposition on my part.

Yes, the first two look awesome, Bravheart great I would say. That's how most of the filme looks IMO. The third frame looks more like an odd frame, I don't recall seeing much of that during playback. Though it's been a while since last time I watched it. but I'm usually very picky. Some scenes might look a little soft, but that's probably how they were captured, because they don't have the DNR feel to them. Some EE is the only real objection I had with it, but then again almost everything else I've seen on BD has it to some degree.

IMO, Gladiator is nowhere close to this. If it actually looked like this one, I would be very happy indeed.
