View Full Version : Pre-Order Thread?
As many of you know, we did have a BR pre-order sticky at the top of this forum yesterday. The mods removed it because the thread starter was suppling links to the Amazon pre-releases which allowed the OP to generate income off us as we purchased the titles through the supplied links. A real scum-bag move IMO and I'm glad to see the mods removed it.
Anyway, it would be nice to have a BR pre-order sticky back at the top. I honestly won't stay on top of something like this to keep it updated to the level it would need to be kept. Would anyone be willing to accept such a responsibility w/o trying to profit from such an effort?
BTW,
It looks like the thread in the HD-DVD forum is still active and the thread starter might be doing the same scam. It also appears there might be another thread in the HD-DVD forum as well from the individual who started the BR pre-order scam...
Poolrad 04-05-07, 08:07 AM I liked the thread and used it often, not sure why it was removed.

It was removed because the thread starter was cashing in on us using it...

just curious how is this done ?
Poolrad 04-05-07, 11:06 AM Personally I don't care, he took the time to keep it up to date & in good order. If he makes a couple $ then it's fine by me for the effort he put into it.
Now we have no consolidated list, with nice click able links in it for us to purchase..
Fettastic 04-05-07, 11:18 AM I haven't been able to access my amazon pre-orders for 2 weeks now. Several emails to them have returned several form letters saying they are aware of the problem and are working on it.
Last time I told them to cancel my $1,000.00+ batch of pre-orders. They said they'd get back to me about that. ;)
Anyone else having this problem?

If the AVS administrators allow me to make a good profit from their board w/o them getting a cut, and you just want links, I'll be more than happy to keep an up to date list for you with links. :D
These guys can make thousands off you guys buying from these links... Think about it, if ever purchase through these links makes 6.5% and these threads are getting thousands of hits, it doesn't take long before that person is making damn good money! Personally, I think it's horse-sh!t as well since AVS isn't even getting a cut and we didn't know these scammers were even doing it.
are you f!@$#ing kidding me????!?!?!
i'm going to cancel EVERY SINGLE ONE of my pre orders (i had lots) and re order them...
that should take care of this horse$hit, right?
I would think that would take care of it, but I don't know for sure.

They're making money whether you buy or not. They're getting paid for directing you there, no matter what the outcome is. Cancelling your order does nothing.

You are misinformed. Amazon associate program (http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=508504)
Once the pre-orders go through and Amazon tallies the results, their bank accounts get bigger. Lord knows how much the Casino Royale pre-order link generated in revenue for whomever posted it. Associates don't get paid for directing traffic, just when a purchase is made from their link.
So it means that someone else is profiting other than AVS.
aaronwt 04-05-07, 01:30 PM He was getting a percentage of each purchase.
I'm surprised this issue didn't come up sooner. It seemed that everytime any new preorder was available on amazon there was at least a couple of threads declaring the release. I just assumed AVS didn't care.
Poolrad 04-05-07, 01:38 PM Ok then simple fix, have AVS setup a link like what he had and get the bonus from doing it. I want my link post back to make my purchases easier... I don't care who gets paid, I just want the simplistic, easy to read, easy to order what I want post...
Who cares if he got paid, its not like we had to pay more. He kept the thread up to date, got some money, we got links to make it easy to preorder, everyone was happy.

I don't think 99.9% of the people realized what was going on.

If AVS wanted to do something like this I'd be okay with it... otherwise I call shenanigans.
Poolrad 04-05-07, 02:16 PM I just want a simplified post like he had and easy to click/understand links for my convenience. It was the #1 reason why I navigated to this forum, so I could find a single place by release date of the movies I would like to order on Amazon..

I find it interesting the threads in the BR forum have been removed (yesterday), yet the threads in the HD-DVD forum still remain even though they know about both. Which way is it going to be AVS???

I made my suggestion on that thread, us power-shoppers are really the only one's getting left in the dark by this decision. I don't want to have to go hunt & peck around other websites/forums to figure out what movies are coming out on what day and what the link is to purchase them. I had all that in the prior deleted thread for ease of use...
QWK SVT 04-05-07, 04:28 PM I completely agree these should be pulled, unless AVS receives benefit (they deserve it for allowing us these forums, afterall).
Out of curiousity, could one not become an associate, then refer themself to Amazon, to save an additional 6.5%?
AVS should become an associate to generate a little more revenue for the site.
anavrin0901 04-05-07, 06:30 PM Wow! This was a complete waste of a topic for me to read on blu ray software.
AVSRichard 04-05-07, 06:37 PM Lol.

Sorry guys, but what I get a great laugh from is the fact that the poster's forum name had "bandit" in it. Wasn't it "bandit6" or something? THAT is classic, and it took so long for anyone to notice what was really going on.
anavrin0901 04-05-07, 09:34 PM That is funny...but i thought this was a forum board on Blu Ray software and titles NOT politics. I have no problem with what he did...this is America...ambitious people do what they must and I also have no problem with AVS doing the same BUT I do miss all the great deals that I used to see posted here.

anavrin0901,
So does this mean you're electing to take over the job of posting, maintaining, and updating a preorder thread?
anavrin0901 04-06-07, 10:20 AM You want me to huh?
Poolrad 04-06-07, 10:43 AM Foots has been kind enough to recreate the thread using the proper links:
