View Full Version : I'm an idiot....settings lesson learned reading this forum :)
So, I couldn't figure out for the life of me why I had such the incredible picture from my HD DVR connected to my Pio5071 using HDMI. However, my upconverting DVD player also connected via HDMI had a really crappy picture.
So, here's where I am an idiot. After reading and reading and reading (well you get the idea) this forum I came across somebody's post (probably D-Nice) that answered my very question without me asking it since somebody else had the same problem. To have your settings properly input to the panel for all sources they need to be input for EVERY input individually. I knew that but I still couldn't figure out why the DVD player pic was so bad when it was using HDMI just like the HD DVR.
D-oh! Just because you are using the same "type" of input doesn't mean jack! You have to go to each HDMI input and adjust the settings accordingly (and other inputs as well). So, I have just updated all the settings and when I went into the DVD picutre menu I now understand why the picture sucked so bad. Factory default settings I assume.
Problem solved. And thanks to this forum from allowing me to remove my idiot tag and now become that much more educated to the ways of the panel.
THANKS ALL!!!!

Don't feel bad. Not only a common misconception but to make things worse some brands, at lease for some named picture settings, do indeed apply a user's changes across ALL connections even though it makes no sense to do so. Philips is famous for this except for the settings names "personal".
Glad you got everything straightened out and are enjoying your display. As you have discovered, PQ is all about the proper adjustments.
Cheers, :)

You ain't kidding! PQ is definitely all about proper adjustments. Now I can enjoy the DVD player like I have my HD-DVR :)

raven69david 04-05-07, 11:36 AM You've just cleared up a BIG issue that's very common on this forum. Your post will educate people on how to fix their settings for EACH input. Thanks for the post and keep an eye on the people checking it out. You'll most likely make a difference in everyone who visits this thead.

Thanks! BTW, it's ok to call me an idiot for my blunder. I called myself that in the first place. I just needed a good B!TCH slap to get it all sorted out :D

I sure hope so. That's the main reason I posted it. I felt that using myself as an example to the rest of the forum posters I could save the forum from countless postings that are a direct result of not realizing what I just did about settings.
Hopefully some day I will be on the other side of the fence giving advice and helping others out. Until then I am more than fine with posting my experiecnes to allow others to learn from my expereinces.
Yes, I felt like an idiot. But that doesn't mean everybdy else has to ;)

Since you have a 5070, I bet you were adjusting the USER AV Selection....am I correct?
That's because USER is the only made that can be adjusted independently for EACH input. The other modes - Standard, Dynamic, Movie, and Game - apply to EVERY input. Furthermore, Dynamic is the only mode that cannot be adjusted.
So don't make the mistake of adjusting Standard for example to provide a great picture for your HD DVR, then go to the input for your DVD player and re-adjust Standard. It will change Standard for all inputs.

Correct. User on all inputs. Thanks for the input.
