I've been reading this board for a few weeks and searching for advice but I can't seem to make up my mind. Hoping someone has some useful input.

I currently use an HD DVR from Comcast (Motorola 34xx). I want to transfer some shows, mainly from Nick, Noggin, and Disney, and burn them to DVD for my sone when we have to go on trips or just out for the day. No need for a tuner in the Recorder

I was leaning towards an HDD DVD Recorder but given the state of the market, they are hard to come by. I wanted the HDD in order to edit commercials and such before burning.

Would it be overkill (based on my needs) to try and find a Pioneer/Panasonic somewhere? Should I skip the HDD? Are the Philips/RCA/>insert low end brand here> sufficient? I want a quality player.

I guess another possibility is forgetting the HDD and getting a DVD Recorder that also upscales. Then I cna burn the disc and rip to PC for editing if necessary. Then I can use the player on the 2nd TV.

Whats the best Upscaling DVD Recorder?
