Are there any Blu-Ray discs that look worse than their DVD counterparts?
I'm trying to get an idea of this because I've seen many Blu-Ray reviews that have lower ratings for PQ than their DVD counterparts... presumably because they're comparing Blu-Ray against Blu-Ray and DVD against DVD.... but I figured I'd ask the question just in case.
The worst Blu-Ray disc so far, has still got to be better than its DVD counterpart.... right?
I'd say yes. House of Flying Daggers is the lowest rated title in the "Tier" thread, yet it still looks better than the DVD, both of which I own.
Now there is Kiss of the Dragon movie, which HighDefDigest gave 1 star and I think said looked worse than DVD. But i've never seen that so I can't tell.

We have a couple of threads on that topic. Here is one of them

I have the BD of Kiss of the Dragon, and I had the D-Theater and the DVD. The BD is definitely a step up from the DVD.
As to the OP's question, I have not seen any BD (or HD DVD) that looked worse, or even the same as, the same title on DVD. On the worst of the BDs, it is not much of an improvement, but it is still an improvement.

If you have a big enough HDTV and you are not sitting too far away.
What really creeps up on you is how quickly your eyes get used to the highdef video quality. If you spend a couple of weeks and watch a dozen or so blu-ray movies (HD DVD works too), and then pick you best DVD, even on a HD-A1, your eyes will pick up enough visual cues that something is 'wrong' with the SD DVD screen.
I've noticed this earlier since I've been watching HD versions of CSI for a long time and my DVD buying has been decreasing for the last two years primarily because the HD-cable looked so much better than DVD.

It's strange how you get used to the enhanced video and audio and think it's "normal". Then when you go to regular cable or dvd, you think it looks blurry, whereas you were fine with it before.

I'll probably get cast by stones for saying this like the majority usually do when people don't agree but the DVD version of The Descent is so much better IMO than the Blu Ray version I own because of the horrible grain the Blu Ray has in the black scenes which since the movie is shot in the cave that is pretty frequent.
Is this a troll thread disguised as a honest question? It seems like it to me.
