i just upgraded to an upconverting dvd player..its set to 16x9 but when i play dvd's with 1:85 aspect ratio the picture just plays in a small rectangular box in the center of the screen..in other words black bars all the way around..while other dvds in the same aspect ratio play in the full 16x9 mode
going through HDMI BTW

Sounds like a DVD setting for playing back 4:3 formatted DVDs with pillar box. Is the 1.85:1 DVD actually 16x9 enhanced?

i checked the dvd player settings and its set to 16x9 not sur eif the dvd is enhanced or not..like i said it only happens on some of the 1:85 dvd's so that may be the case
