I just got a new recorder and it will record and play DVD RAM disk fine, but will not play store bought movies i tried 4 different movies. It just shows reading on the front of the recorder. I burned a tv show on a std DVD-R and finalized it on this machine and it won't read it either. It is a Panasonic DMR-ES15 i returned it to where i bought it and picked up another one and it does the same exact thing. It will record and play DVD RAM disk fine but nothing else. Any ideas
Thanks

It must not be your day? Don't bother buying any Power Ball tickets. Sounds to me like you got 2 bad ES15's in a row. Nothing can explain not playing "store bought movies" unless they were abused rental DVD's?

Do you happen to have the DVDR hooked to a cable or sat box? If so, unplug the cables coming from the box...the ends in the DVDR...and try again???

wabjxo, You are right If i disconnect the AV cables from the cable box it will play. But then i cannot record. Surley this is not normal. Do you know why? Is there a fix other than disconnecting the cables? Why does it play the DVD RAM disk fine like this?

Others with Panny Es15 have had a similar problem since their cable/sat companies pushed thru an update for the change in DST.

You might be able to keep them hooked together if you try both:

1. Set your ES15 clock manually and turn DST off.

2. Input the box on IN2 or 3 rather than IN1.

So far, there has been lots of study by cable cos. and Panny re: this issue and no results or fix to date.

To get the recording back, it might require a ES15 reset, then try hooking things back up again to IN2/3?

The RAM disc may play 'cause it's a VR-mode disc...just a wag!

I will give that a try tomorrow. I have already talked to 3 tech support people at Panasonic and they didn't have a clue.
