A friend is considering buying a 1920x1080 video projector, and he is looking at Sony VPLWV50 and Mitsubishi HC5000 at the moment.
Which one would you recommend? VPLWV50 has higher contrast, but projectorcentral seem to think that the picture is not very sharp/detailed?
Anyone?

Different projectors with different flavors...each with its own +'s and -'s. I would take a look at the rundown of 1080p's at projectorreviews.com - Art does a pretty good job of talking about benefits of each.
..just popped in,
Your friend really should try to see them in person. The room size and seating and screen size are MAJOR considerations in choice. Since there is no "do it all" PJ yet, it's not easy to just say "buy this one".
The choices are narrowed down so that is good, Mit's (i have read) have a razor sharpness to them, but at close seating may look digital, Sonys' have a film image, but some want PC monitor sharpness and so will not be satisfied with it.
Reviews are helpful as guides, but NOTHING can beat an in person viewing.
This is the fun part!
