Hi,
I'm new to this forum and just wanted to let folks know that our 4th year of outdoor community movies in West Seattle will start on July 21 and will run for 6 consecutive Saturdays. These events are free and are a great way to meet and commune with your neighbors. I would post the site but haven't made five posts yet.
Cheers,

Why start so late in the season?
May or early June should be good weather, no?

Good question. Reason to start toward the end of July here is that the chance of rain is less than 10%. Plus because we are so far north, the sun doesn't set until late.
Cheers!

I am in Everett. We are setting up a neighborhood outdoor theater this summer for the first time. We are trying to figure out the screen. I have a 3,000 lumen projector and another neighbor is setting up the sound. We are not sure yet what size screen would be best but of coarse we want the largest we can get away with without the pict becoming too dim. We probably will have 20 plus people from the neighborhood. It will be set up at the bottom of a fairly steep grass slope. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Hi kodiakten,
Glad to hear about another outdoor movie setup. Screen size is as you know very important and is priamarily based on two factors - How many lumens does your projector output and How many folks do you expect to come see the show. When I setup my first outdoor cinema in West Seattle, the largest screen we could use was 12'x16'. Do a little math and that = 192 square feet. Trying to target a nominal 16fL means that I need about a 3000 lumen projector which is what I've been using. So that would be my recomendation for largest. However, in your case you have only 20 people. I'd reduce the screen size down to 9'x12' which will nearly double the amount of light on the screen and still give you a nice big image. Plus the screen will be much easier to manage.
Good luck!

I think a Gemmy or Sima screen will be a good size screen for our crowd. A 12ft. screen is plenty big for a small crowd.
