So, what are some REALLY great PCM moments where the difference between Dolby Digital and PCM (or TrueHD and DTS MA) is really apparent?

Timestamps are always cool, but just anything you guys can think of so we can find some good audio demo material!

Here's one for you:

Black Hawk Down: 1hour 10 mins 30 seconds -> 1 hour 10 mins 45 seconds.

Those 15 seconds in PCM DESTROY the Dolby track. The gunfire just sounds like a different weapon!

That's easy...

The Prestige. Tesla...electricity...WOW

The Plane Crash scene in Superman Returns. The Car chase scene in batman beings. Technically, my HD DVD player converts TruHD into PCM before output to the AVR so it should count. ;)

I kid I kid.

Tesla's invention and the prestige and Casino Royale as a whole.

Yeah Casino Royale = woah.

Just wish I could figure out how to get my receiver to display the actual sound signal. It's saying EVERYTHING from my PS3 is in PCM, even Dolby tracks! Grr!

Off the top of my head I would have to say the nighttime village fight scene in Kung Fu Hustle and the intro and outro music in Casino Royale. In the case of Casino Royale, I never heard movie music come through so clearly and crisply in my system.

That's because the ps3 is doing the decoding. You have to set your ps3 to bitstream in order for your receiver to decode it.

Idendity, the whole movie! The lighnting and storm sounds from from all points on my 7.1 setup just freaked me out. Rent it and see.

Now what is this about PS3 and pcm or bitstream? I thought I had to have the PS3 set to PCM to get the lossless audio. I have it going through a Pio 84 reciever.

If you set it to PCM, it will send everything to the receiver as PCM, Bitstream sends the original sound over and lets your receiver do the decoding I believe.

It may not be PCM but the DTS-HD track of the space pod/ship crash in Planet of The Apes will give any PCM track a run for it's money. My favorite PCM track is from Reign of Fire....pretty much any action scene will work your setup.

Probably the incursion in the beginning of Black Hawk Down.

Pretty much the whole soundtrack for Tears of the Sun.

So I'm resurrecting this, since doubtless we own a lot more lossless BDs. So, what are your favorite moments?

New favorite: Casino Royale: When Bond gets into the Aston Martin after leaving the restaurant, and fires that motor up and drives off. The surround sound takes on a whole new personality in PCM mode. In DD5.1, it's like there's no sound field!

Reign of Fire, the ending scene in London as they kill the head (?) dragon. Crazy!
