I thought I read somewhere when they showed this last year on ABC, it was in 4:3 even though it was 16:9 in the movies, and the quality was not that great. Anyone else seen it last year?

IMDB shows two aspect ratios for the movie: 1.85:1, but a 2.20:1 version for the 1989 re-release? See http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0049833/technical. 1.85:1 is probably correct, so if ABC shows it in HD, it be 16:9 with minimal cropping. CPanther95 04-07-07, 10:54 AM Better have a DVR. Even if unedited for time, there's still over an hour of commercials. mikepier 04-07-07, 11:00 AM IIRC, this was SD last year. I wonder how they can take a movie that was originally 1.85:1 and make it into a 2.20:1 aspect ratio. Maybe it was on the third tablet that Mel Brooks dropped. CPanther95 04-07-07, 12:20 PM There may already be an OAR Commandment. We'll never know what the 11th - 15th Commandments until we get through those pearly gates. ;) [edit] No fair TVOD, you added in the Mel Brooks comment to your post as I was responding. :) rezzy 04-07-07, 12:55 PM If it's by cropping, then there should be an 11th commandment against that. No HD = goodbye Easter tradition! mikepier 04-07-07, 07:15 PM I don't know what would be the reason not to show this in HD. They've shown other movies on Saturday nights in HD. chitchatjf 04-07-07, 07:15 PM Same deal in Boston Comcast WCVB AND WMUR. I do have the SD DVD though. TSince the film is about Passover not Easter I would have aired it on the two Tuesday nights. (3rd and 10th) mikepier 04-07-07, 07:19 PM Same deal in Boston Comcast WCVB AND WMUR. Pesach or Passover is an eight-day long celebration that begins on the night of the fifteenth day of the month of Nissan (April 3, 2007) of the Hebrew calendar. afiggatt 04-07-07, 07:46 PM Not only it not in HD, but a very soft looking SD. This must be from a old transfer that was done many years ago. Every year, they just get out the same tape and play it. Has the Ten Commandments ever been shown in HD (outside of a movie theater on 35mm film) anywhere? Maybe there is not an HD transfer available? Regardless, someone should bug ABC and tell them to get a state of the art HD transfer done for next year. With this much stilted overacting, it should be in HD. mikepier 04-07-07, 08:03 PM Pesach or Passover is an eight-day long celebration that begins on the night of the fifteenth day of the month of Nissan (April 3, 2007) of the Hebrew calendar. Having been raised a Roman Catholic, I assumed the10 Commandments were related to the Catholic faith, but having read the plot outline on imdb.com, I assumed wrong. I'm a little confused now. When I was a kid, I remember they always showed this movie around Easter, assuming it was to mark the special holy Catholic day. JCL 04-07-07, 08:05 PM Not in HD. This thread dies. DaveFi 04-07-07, 08:51 PM ABC! Yep, related to the Catholic faith, as well as all Christian faiths, as well as the Jewish faith, as well as the Muslim faith. You must have gone to Catholic school to be that brainwashed.... ;) DaveFi 04-07-07, 09:05 PM FYI: This thread is the same every year. ABC lists it as HD and it's always SD.
