I thought I read somewhere when they showed this last year on ABC, it was in 4:3 even though it was 16:9 in the movies, and the quality was not that great. Anyone else seen it last year?

IIRC, this was SD last year. However, ABC's website shows the movie as being in HD tonight, so maybe it will be HD. IMDB shows two aspect ratios for the movie: 1.85:1, but a 2.20:1 version for the 1989 re-release? See http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0049833/technical. 1.85:1 is probably correct, so if ABC shows it in HD, it be 16:9 with minimal cropping.

Better have a DVR. Even if unedited for time, there's still over an hour of commercials.

4:3 DT here in NYC (also WABC-TV). No HD = goodbye Easter tradition! :rolleyes:

I don't know what would be the reason not to show this in HD. They've shown other movies on Saturday nights in HD.

Same deal in Boston Comcast WCVB AND WMUR. I do have the SD DVD though.

Not only it not in HD, but a very soft looking SD. This must be from a old transfer that was done many years ago. Every year, they just get out the same tape and play it.

Has the Ten Commandments ever been shown in HD (outside of a movie theater on 35mm film) anywhere? Maybe there is not an HD transfer available? Regardless, someone should bug ABC and tell them to get a state of the art HD transfer done for next year. With this much stilted overacting, it should be in HD.

Having been raised a Roman Catholic, I assumed the10 Commandments were related to the Catholic faith, but having read the plot outline on imdb.com, I assumed wrong. I'm a little confused now. When I was a kid, I remember they always showed this movie around Easter, assuming it was to mark the special holy Catholic day.

not only SD but a crappy SD at that... my dvd looked a thousand times better upconverted...

Here in L.A. it was SD stretched. Painful to watch. I watched for less than 60 seconds.
