View Full Version : 24fps players?
Ian_Currie 04-07-07, 09:22 AM I hate judder and would love to eliminate it. I have an RS1, so that's a good start.
I have a PS3 and HD-XA2 for sources - both rumored to support 24fps at some future update, but don't yet.
Are there any players that do currently - or does one need a VP?
I believe the Bravo D1 in custom resolution does 24, 48 and 72 fps.
octogon 04-07-07, 09:45 AM So is the Samsung BD 1200
santellavision 04-07-07, 09:57 AM The Sony Blu-ray does 24fps with an RS1. But, there was some talk about an issue with it not working through a VP.
The LG B100 supports 1080p 24fps in both blu-ray as well as HD-DVD and is a fine performer to boot.
welwynnick 04-07-07, 10:29 AM Yup, only players that do 1080p24 at present are:
Sony BDP-S1
Pioneer Elite BDP-HD1
Samsung BD-P1200
LG BH100
Since the PS3 has a software decoder, I would trust the rumours that say it will join that list.

Why would you want to use a VP in this circumstance? Since the RS1's native resolution is 1920x1080 and the Sony's is as well, there is no need to do scaling in a VP. Since the Sony can output 24p and the RS1 can accept it, there is no need for a VP to do frame rate conversion or deinterlacing.

Yep, that is the reason I have sold my Crystalio II, after I have upgrade the PJ to the Mits HC 5000, VP are overrated .

Correct.
If you already have a VP, you don't need a player that does 1080p24, as you can just send the VP 1080i/60 and have the VP convert it to 1080p/24 out to the projector.
welwynnick 04-08-07, 03:45 AM Correct.

Reason for that is to avoid the unnecessary intermediate 1080i60 stage, that invariably seems to cause some sort of degradation. It's a bit of decoding, a bit of up-sampling and a bit of de-interlacing.
Wait a minute; what am I talking about " IF I was the sort of person....?" I AM that sort of person!
Nick :)

Nick, I am glad that you followed up on my post. Why? Because my post turns out to be incorrect!
After doing some research, it appears that there is a problem with VP's converting 1080i/60 to 1080p/24. They just can't do it correctly, apparently having something to do with frame lock and a mix of video and film signals?
Very disappointing.....
So having a player that directly outputs 1080p/24 is the way to go!
Rob Tomlin 04-08-07, 12:42 PM "Theoretically" 1080i60 IVTC to 1080p24 and shown on a 1080p24 capable display should be the exact same as 1080p24 directly off the disc and displayed as 1080p24. But it seems this isn't a perfect world, and along with with what you stated many other artifacts can be added. Even though it's uncalled for given the "quality" of HD format disc players, 1080i60 can add CUE to this day in current players!
I completely agree.
