I was just looking at http://www.pocketdish.com/ and I noticed that both the AV402E and the AV700E and listed as sold out and only the AV500E is available according to their webpage. Does anybody know if they are going to drop these in favor of the Archos line http://www.archos.com/products/video...global&lang=en
Portable video
• ARCHOS 704 WiFi
• ARCHOS 604
• ARCHOS 604 WiFi
• ARCHOS 504
• ARCHOS 404
• ARCHOS 404 cam
I do seem to recall some discussion in the past that although the AV402E, AV500E, and AV700E have/had some DISH specific features, that the Archos x04 line would incorporate those features. Can anyone shed some additional light on this?
Or, guess another way of looking at this would be if there will be say any AVxx4E WiFi units? I would like to see a unit like the ARCHOS 704 WiFi configured for DISH.

Is it possible to burn the PocketDISH firmware (e.g. AV700E) onto a standalone Archos player (e.g. AV700) and turn it into PocketDISH?

I did a preliminary attempt at this and wasn't too successful. My DISH DVR box (ViP622) refuses to recognize AV700 as a known external device when connected with USB (even when loaded with AV700E firmware). I've read some vague information somewhere that such a thing should be possible in theory. Sorry, can't locate where I read it now. I have no idea how reliable that info was and how to do it.

Latest news report from 2 days ago states that a plugin can be downloaded for Archos 405, 605 Wifi and 705 Wifi and turn them into PocketDishes!!!
It looks like such a feature is only supported for the top of the line Generation 5 players from Archos. So it won't be supported for Archos 700. Meaning, Archos would rather see their top of the line devices being sold for more profits, rather than supporting older generation devices. This is encouraging and discouraging information at the same time. (Discouraging for those who spent good money on those "older" players back when they were new.)

The plugin download on the other hand is totally free of charge, and can be obtained here:

Anyone tried the Archos 605 Wifi with Pocket Dish? Any comments on how good it is and if its worth the big price tag of $400? I saw the 705 Wifi but it only does 260,000 colors instead of 16.7 million, so that is a drawback. Also, once you get the video in there, can you transfer it to a PC or not (is it encrypted)?
