View Full Version : RS1: 1080p60 is a no-go

I originally posted my struggles with "scan frequency is out of range" in one of the owner's threads, thinking it was an HTPC snafu of some sort. Long story short, I can't get the RS1 to lock on anything higher than 50Hz, even with lots of PowerStrip tweaking. All I knew for sure was that it wasn't a bandwidth issue, despite the error message: it won't do 1280x720p60 either (which is much lower frequency than known-good 1080p resolutions).

As of today I'm significantly more worried. I hooked up an XBox 360 via component and it has the same problem! So it's definitely not related to my HTPC software, my videocard, or any part of the DVI->HDMI signal chain.

Anyone seen anything like this? Dunno what else to try...maybe borrow a standalone HDDVD player from a store w/ good return policy -- if it had the same problem, that would pretty much clinch it.

The out of range issue shouldnt occur to you wiht component inputs. Might be your PJ.

Have you tried something not a htpc? The computer is often to blame.

I had a similar problem with my RCA DTC-100 stb, same error message, on component and hdmi connection; finally gave up & got a different receiver, the DTV HR20. It works fine.

Please scroll up & reread.

Let's summarize the data points:
- at the top of this thread is my testing with an XBox 360 via component video cables @ 1080p60
- my original error report w/ Geforce vidcard (HDMI 1080p60) (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=10181639#post10181639)
- same error message w/ JVC 40K source (component 1080i60) (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=832116)
- same error with RCA DTC-100 source (component 1080i60) (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=9978123&&#post9978123)
- same error with ATI vidcard (HDMI 1080p24) (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=828840)

At this point we have two brands of videocards, two brands of DVHS, and an XBox all receiving the bogus error. We've observed it via HDMI and component. We've observed it at 1080p60, 1080p24, and 1080i60.

BUGBUG! :)

What firmware revision is everyone using? I have the 1st shipment (v59).

it's the computer !!!. most problems happening are with PC sources/configurations

no problem in 24P 60p 50p with hd dvd blu ray and several scalers

I don't think the rs-1 will take 1080p over component.

My output (RCA-DTC100) was 1080i, both with component and with an hdmi converter.

If you read the spec's on the RS-1 it will only accept 1080i over analog inputs not 1080p. 1080p60 works just fine on my RS-1 with the digital inputs (both HTPC and external scaler) so I assume the problems the OP has is related to his HTPC. The RCA DTC-100 uses a non-standard video format - IIRC it's 540p rather than 1080i but the sync is reversed, so it's not surprising that you're having problems with it (although you should try each sync type on the RS-1 and see if you can get it to work).

I downloaded NEW DRIVERS yesterday for my ASUS 8800 GTS and the HD1 locked easily at 1080p 50 & 25 Hz. The card has very useful software and features and a SATURATION sliding button for the oversaturated (???) colours of JVC...

What driver version are you using now, trinik?
