My new Samsung DLP is 56" and perhaps just a bit too big for the cut out area above my fireplace. While it fits the hole perfectly, it causes the screen to be up just a bit higher than desired. Is it possible to tilt the set forward several degrees in a safe way to enhance viewing angle (we are sitting on a couch about 8-10 feet away, the Tv is up 4' off the ground)? Does anyone build a stand that angles upward at the rear to give an angle to it? The picture is far better with a more direct viewing angle which I would rather achieve vs. exchanging the screen for an LCD, which due to cost would have to be much smaller than the 56" Samsung 1080p.

I built a box to set my Sony 70" on and it put it a bit higher than optimal, but not nearly as high as yours. I made the back of my box .5" taller than the front. I should have gone .75". You may need 1.5" or even 2". Be careful though as you don't want to thing to tip over and the more you tilt it the more likely there could be cooling issues (sounds like yours is going to be in VERY tight confines to begin with too...)

Good luck.

This was discussed not that long ago.
