Trying to record off my DV recorder to a disc. Using TDK 8X -R and a firewire to the 2001G. I hit the OTC button or the record button on the 2001G and it records for 4 seconds then says "copy protected" and pauses. I also tried a Philips disc with the same effect. The manual just says "hit record" and doesn't seem to have any what- if instructions. I will be the first to admit my "limitations" with electronics, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks Dave

As an added note, I have tried recording to optical disc and to hard disc with the same result. I thought I would give the Toshiba RX32 that I recently put an HP burner in (plays great) and it says the media is dirty!! Brand new out of the box discs. I am sure there are good machines on the market, but these aren't two of them. The Tosh recorded one disc before it quit recording. I really don't want to go spend another few hundred on another recorder that will quit in a week or a month as mine and one my son bought all have. As I said, any help with the Polaroid would be appreciated. Dave

the firewire input is only for recording from a camcorder.

I thought a digital video recorder was a camcorder. Can the firewire only be used with vhs recorders? As I said, somewhat limited in my expertise. Dave

if the ''dv recorder" you're talking about is a Tivo or similar device, you'll need to use the s-video,composite(the yellow video jack)or component(if it has any) out from the dv recorder to the appropriate inputs on the dvd recorder. And audio cables too,of course.
Can the firewire only be used with vhs recorders?
as far as I know,dv inputs on dvd recorders are only for transferring stuff from a camcorder.

DVD Recorders are NOT camcorders. The ones I have seen have the DV-IN port crippled so that it will only accept input from a digital camcorder. This is due to the MPAA being paranoid over the possibility that the DV-IN port could be used by a hacker to copy their precious rental DVD's. It can't be used by VHS recorders because they don't have firewire ports. It is amazing these things work at all due to all the restrictions built into them. Hard drives are the next feature to bite the dust.

I was not making myself clear. I am trying to record from my Optura 20 camcorder to my 2001G. Not from another dvd player. I finally did get it to record to the HDD using componant cables. Today I'll try to get it onto a disc. It doesn't seem like it should be this hard. I guess it is my lack of knowledge. Well...time to make the donuts. Dave

You're right, it shouldn't be that hard to record from an Optura 20 to a DVD recorder through it's DV-IN port. Your Polaroid must be incorrectly thinking it is seeing a "do-not-copy" signal coming in with the video. Quality DVD recorders shouldn't do that. My Panasonic DMR-E100 doesn't do that. The only fix that I am aware of is to get a different DVD recorder that works right. I wish there was some quick fix but I don't know of any. I doubt a filter would help because there shouldn't be any anti-copy signal present that could be filtered out. Your Polaroid is hallucinating and needs a Psychiatrist.

That is really funny and sad at the same time. You can easily download free software onto your computer that breaks every known protection scheme and copy anything you want. Another dumb thing is in the dual VCR/DVD Recorder units that say you can't copy tapes with copy protection on them. Right, I really want to copy some fugly tape onto a DVD, when I have a PC in the other room.

I believe if you do a search you will find a thread about not being able to use the firewire input on the 2001G with a camcorder. As I recall it is not workable on U.S. Polaroid 2001Gs but works on other non- U.S. clones.

Masochrist, that figures. I read all the threads (I thought) on the Polaroid before I bought it. I obviously missed that one. But, it did go to the HDD with the cables and I MAY have gotten it onto a disc. Haven't had a chance to check today. Dave, that was my thought also, I didn't know I was buying protected DV cassettes!! Mhuf, I agree, my PC will copy anything to the HD then burn it. I was hoping the 2001 would be more of a "one touch" and not challenge my intellect quite as much. Live and learn. That's why I come here. Bought a Pany 58gu60 (or whatever it is) after reading reviews and opinions here. Great tv. Thanks for the input. Dave

There's a flaw with the Polaroid's DV input, apparently... won't accept NTSC signals, only PAL.

I have the same problem with my 2001G it shows "copy protected" when trying to record from DV input but only with CANON camcorders, not with Sony, it seems to be the Canon recording mode, because even switching the tape to playback in my Sony won't record it either, at the same time taking a tape recorded with the Sony into the Canon it will record with no problem. I call Polaroid and the answer was to use the composite connection. Seems that this is a Polaroid problem because the Canon recordings work OK with my Zenith and Liteon DVRs

I forgot to mention that all my equipment is NTSC so may no be Video System problem
