Hi Guys,
Well I guess this question is directed more to the professional calibrators but anyone please feel free to throw in a option.
I am looking at purchasing the new Samsung 5265F LCD panel, it comes with an intergrated HD tuner so how do you go about calibrating that? I can understand calibrating a DVD from test patterns on a disc or even a STB as the inputs are available to plug a test pattern generator into, but this has got me baffled.
Basically I am looking for some insight on how to go about tweaking it for myself.

You might find an HD channel that broadcasts a test pattern late at night, usually color bars. This would allow you to do some basic calibration of your HD tuner signal path.
Others here will correct me, but I think that for anything beyond that, you will need an HD pattern generator and an injector that will transmit the patterns into your RF tuner. Cha-ching!!

I don't know if any of the TV stations here broadcast any test patterns but it is worth chasing down. Thanks for the suggestion.
So the injector plugs into the RF socket on the TV? Then how do you get the test patterns? Are they outputted at the same frequency as one of the tuned stations?

There are signal generators that can generate test patterns for OTA HD inputs which calibrators use. They are not cheap. Sencore VP403C (? MSRP $5000) has this capability and there are other brand generators as well.
For the DIY using broadcast test patterns if available is the only way.
Hope this helps.

Kind of reminds me of a song "If I were a rich man........."
Maybe I should take solace in the fact that there may be some alternate universe out there were I am enjoying all these gadgets.
Thanks for the info Bob.

Well I have checked, but from what I can find it is not available in Australia. :( I guess I am going to have to fudge it.

Well, if it's any consolation, I'm in a medium size city on West Coast USA, and not not only can I not find any test patterns being broadcast, I can't get ANY of my local stations to even reply to emails asking about them.
I actually stumbled on some on one of my PBS (public broadcasting system - non-commercial tv) digital sub-channels, but it disapeared a few months ago.

or if you stay up REALLY REALLY late at night when some stations go off the air there may be patterns...

Chris, I've tried that as well, on the rare occasion that there was nothing on, (which is pretty rare anymore), still no patterns. I rember when i was a kid, they used the show the Indian Head pattern by 12:00, 1:00 am. now I can check theough the nite, and nothing.
