I'm wondering if there is a list or a resource to determine what sets are capable of 8 and 10-bit color? I understand that HDMi is capable of passing upto 12-bit and higher bit rates, but not all sets, especially older ones implimented it correctly. Some are simpe HDMi 1.o which is 8-bit DVI with audio added.
I have a two year old Mits. WD-52725 DLP which has HDMi, but I can't find the spec that shows whether it is 8 or 10-bit. I am expecting a new SD_DVD player to be delivered today (MArantz DV7600) and it has an 8-bit, vs 10-bit setting. I'd like to understand this capability a bit better so I know; #1: Is my set capable of using the higher bit color setting. #2: If I were to set the player to 10-bit, and the set was only 8-bit, what happens? Will I not get a picture, thus stuck having to pull out another cable solution to be able to get into the menu and reset it to 8-bit?
Is there a spec in a sets manual that might give one an indication of the color bit a set is capable?
