My 70" Mitsubishi is about 15-20 years old and has served me well. Lately, the picture has been declining and is getting noticeably darker with a very grainy effect which was never there before. My question is can I do some cleaning inside the set, particularly the lenses, which I'm told are all glass, and the inside surface of the screen? How do I access these areas/parts? What do I use to clean them? Years ago, I put about $200 into a minor repair and the tech said he cleaned these parts. I figure I'm due for another cleaning.
Thanks

Years ago... RPTV's optics should be cleaned once a year. Not difficult to learn to do. http://www.keohi.com/keohihdtv/learnabout/generaltips/screenoptics/cleaningtheoptics.html

A very helpful piece on this subject. I hope to tackle this project and the one big question I had was where and how do I start? This article even told me where to look to remove the screen to access the mirror and lenses, something that had perplexed me. Thanks, hammerdwn, for the quick and thorough response. While I was 1/2 looking for an excuse to buy a new bigscreen, this gives me a challenge to get new and better use from a longtime dependable friend.

Here's a link to a thread with some posts and pics of my Toshiba CRT RPTV with cleaning details as well as focus and screen removal along with some tips from MrBob as well. Here's the link. Start at post # 1778 and read and view pics from there.
