I just got a Samsung LN-T4661F, I am having a hard time getting the colors etc where I think they look good. My last TV was a CRT. So I am not sure if the same "video essentials" DVD I have (I know real old) applies.

1. Is there a different "adjustment" routine for an LCD vs. a CRT?
2. What is the new standard calibration DVD everyone buys? i.e. the new version of video essentials. (guessing maybe an "Avia" disc?)
3. Is there an adjustment post specific to the 4661 where people talk about what thier settings are?

My current disc is really basic, some setting on this TV like Sharpness seem to have no effect to me, whether set to 0 or 100. On a CRT this is not the case. There are also several settings in the "detailed settings" area like gamma, white balance etc.

Sorry I know these questions must be old news to some of you pros but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The calibration standards haven't changed since your copy of Video Essentials was released. Actually that DVD (I have it too) is easier to use than the newer DVE is (I have that one also, plus AVIA and the GetGray caldisc). Except for the adjustment of White level to keep a CRT display from "blooming", all the other adjustments are the same.

I prefer the GetGray Caldisc (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=7178409&&#post7178409) version. It is much easier to use and is geared towards LCD, DLP, and Plasma (fixed pixel) displays (no CRT stuff included). It is available as a download (you burn your own DVD, see www.calibrate.tv). The ReadMe file is a free download, and you can read what adjustments are available and a basic description of their use.

As for your problem with the Sharpness adjustment, if you have any of the automatic controls enabled on your Samsung LN-T4661F display, you won't be able to see any changes. This is true of the other adjustments too. Refer to your display's manual. There should be a section on what adjustment and settings you have.

There is a forum section on LCD flat panel displays. Your display is covered here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=820218.
