Hello

I recently purchased a new WD-52631 television, serial number 130550, and when I hooked it up yesterday I noticed a problem on the screen. There appears to be a foreign object right inside the upper center of the screen. It looks to be attached to the top of the screen, curved, and about 3.5 inches long. It looks like a big thick hair but maybe it is a piece of shaved plastic. It is hard to say. When I press lightly on the screen I can detect that it moves a little. It does not appear to be a scratch but an actual object inside the screen.

Please see attached pics.

What is my course of action at this time?

Anyone ever seen this or have a clue what this is?

Thanks

That is extremely distracting... I have the same TV and when it is adjusted correctly it produces an amazing image... something like that would drive me absolutely batty...

I have the 732 model but yours might be the same. Look on the side of your tv for a circular access panel. You should have one on both sides. It is about 6 inches and is held in place by a philips screw. Remove the panel and see if there is something on your screen and also check the lense to the light engine at the bottom. It sounds like a piece of hair has fallen on the lense cover. If so use a can of compressed air to blow it clean.

That sure looks to me like a cracked mirror... bummer. If it is new, just get it replaced for a new set.

What settings are you using?

Picture Mode: Natural
Contrast: 53
Brightness: 28
Color: 31
Tint: 31
Sharpness: 25
noise reduction: low
color temp: low

Perfect Color Settings all 31 except:
red: 25
yellow: 32

Service Menu adjustments (make these at your own risk and write down the defaults):
press menu 2 4 5 7
press video to cycle through the options
<ENTER> saves changes to the settings
<EXIT> will exit w/o changing (unless you have already pushed enter)

(you need to be in color temp low when you enter the menu to adjust the following)

VPOS: default (this changes vertical position)
HPOS: default (horizontal position)

the following effect color gains for the primaries in the high color temp setting:
GGH: default
GRH: default
GBH: default
the following effect color gains for the primaries in the low color temp setting: this is where you want to make changes
GGL: Green Gain Low: leave Default
GRL: Red Gain Low: Leave default
GBL: +55 whatever your default value is...

the rest of the service menu items I have not deciphered yet...

the obove settings will give a very natural picture when there is low light in the room... if you are in a slightly brighter room, increse contrast by 5 and brighness by 5-10

Hope this helps... be careful with the service menu and do not change anything that you don't know how to put back to normal there are supposedly some things in there that are real stinkers and can throw off your whole set.

You could also reach in with your arm (if not too fat) and brush it away with a cloth. Probably takes all of 10 minutes.
