View Full Version : Samsung DLP blowing fuses

I recently experienced a situation with my HLM507W where it just flat-out died
and got no power. No blinking lights, no noises, nothing. I took the back off and traced the power cord to the first board that I came to and found a fuse. I replaced the fuse and thought I was going to get off with a fix under $10. No such luck. The new fuse blew immediately. I then disconnected everything from the "power" board and put a new fuse in it, and plugged it in, so that only the power board was connected to power. The fuse survived, which told me that the problem is downstream of that. I can't keep taking things apart and trying new fuses, but ordered a service manual to see if it has clues. A google search turned up one other Sammy with fuse issues, but no resolution was ever posted. I did notice a little more noise than normal before my power blew (perhaps it was the color wheel or the fan, but the noise wasn't super loud, just a bit noisier than normal). Has anyone else here experienced a fuse problem with a Samsung DLP and if so, what was the ultimate cause?

Glenn

GlennI've been reading Samsung DLP threads since about the time you joined AVS. I don't recall any fuse related posts. You might try using search in the archives to see if you can come up with something.

There was only one other reference to fuses blowing in archives and the poster never said what the final cause/outcome was. I was hoping he was still on here and reading posts to update me/us.

There is another thread where I and another user made updates, but in case someone finds this thread and not that one, I wanted to provide closure here as well. Leootis figured out that the cause of the fuses blowing in his tv and in mine was a faulty power pcb assembly. That is a separate board than the one that the power cord feed into and where the blown fuse is. Behind the analog board is the power pcb assy. Both Leo and I replaced that board as well as the fuse on the PCB Line Filter Assy board and got our TVs working again. Also, fuses are stocked at Radio Shack, so that is useful info too. Now if I can just find out what component is bad on the power board, I will be able to have a spare in wait in case this ever happens again. That board ranges from $130 to $175 and is much cheaper than a service call, so I am glad I took Leo's advice and took a chance with it.
