I finally have my system ready to go and I can't get seem to get these two products, made by the same company working together.

I had success plugging my JVC 40K DVHS directly into my RS1 via component. It looked outstanding!

I'm using my Marantz 8001 to do all the A/V switching to two displays via its two HDMI outputs. I have the JVC 40K DVHS via component, Toshiba A2 via HDMI, PS3 via HDMI and DirecTv DVR via HDMI all running into the Marantz and out via HDMI 1 to a Panasonic 50" plasma and out via HDMI 2 to the RS1.

The problem is that every combo works except the JVC 40K to the JVC RS1 combo. Even the JVC 40K to Panny plasma works like a charm. I keep getting the error message on the RS1 that the "frequency of the input signal is out of range". The JVC manual states that the solution to this problem is to "input video signals that can be used". Well....duh!;)

Anyways, I don't think the problem is at the source (DVHS) or with the Marantz b/c the component signal passes w/o problem to the Panny plasma's HDMI input.

Is there a setting in the JVC menu that I'm not seeing that will allow the HDMI input to pass an HD (1080i, 720p) component signal?

Anybody with a VP that has component and HDMI inputs running to the JVC RS1 via HDMI output w/o problem?

Thanks

Please see http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=10258404. I will change the title to reflect the more widespread problem.

Richard,

Thanks for the link. I'll be keeping up with that thread in hopes that it helps resolve my problem.

What I still don't understand though is why my DVHS tapes play beautifully via component when plugged directly into the RS1 but no picture when the component signal is passed via HDMI. The JVC DVHS deck is set for pass through (no conversion of 720p to 1080i, just puts out either 720p or 1080i, no 1080p exists on this deck) and the Marantz AVR is set for pass through as well.

I'm never the smartest guy in the room ;) but shouldn't the video chain be as simple as this:

1080i source (Alien D-VHS tape) >> JVC Deck (40K) >> 1080i out via component >> Marantz AVR >> 1080i out via HDMI >> JVC RS-1

The Panny plasma handles this fine but not the RS-1. Grrrh.

My theory is that the problem is in the AVR; something funky happening to the signal there. I use a JVC D-VHS, too, but I bypass the AVR, going directly to a Lumagen VP via component, then out to the RS1 with DVI/HDMI. Gorgeous. Moulin Rouge is stunning.

Cam Man,

Thanks for your input but I'm dyin' here of jealousy! :) I have about 100 D-Theater and recorded programs on D-VHS and as of today I can't watch any of them on the RS-1. But it's good to know that someone is successfully able to run component from a JVC deck into a switcher/processor and out via HDMI to the RS1.

The Marantz AVR has two HDMI outputs. Output 1 to my plasma has no problem sending the component signal over HDMI. So I'll switch the projector to HDMI output 1 tonight and see if it makes a difference.

The interesting thing is that the video will play for a few seconds then I get the error message "frequency of the input signal is out of range". Also, the audio plays w/o a problem....just no picture.

The HDMI cable is a 50' run from Monoprice. It has no problem passing an HDMI signal from the A2, PS3 or DVR.

Back to the drawing board (and Marantz manual) tonight.

We/you must find a solution to this. Are you using an upconversion to HDMI accomplished in the AVR? If so, that is the culprit. Send me a PM if that is the case.

Just wanted to update and bring closure to this thread. I previously posted this:

Last night I switched the outputs. Sent HDMI output 1 to the pj and output 2 to the plasma. All is well!!! Now I'm getting DVHS on the pj and plasma! :D

Yeesssss! Must have been one of those quirky HDMI things.
