I've been playing around with the HDMI and component video to my Samsung HLS6187W and haven't noticed a difference. Am I doing something wrong?
I have a Motorola dual tuner DVR cable box.
Monoprice cables.
Denon 3806 Recevier.
Right now I have components going from the cable box to the receiver and a HDMI from the receiver to the TV.
But like I said, I don' notice a difference even when I hook up HDMI directly to the TV. What else should I be doing?
Hi guy
I had the same experience. I bought an expensive HDMI cable and hooked it up. I did not see any difference between component cable and HDMI. I returned the HDMI cable an I am using the component cable that came with my HD cable box. It now sells for $16 plus shipping, however, you can get one even cheaper from monoprice.com
Best Regards
There really isn't that big of the difference between HDMI and component. HDMI just keeps the signal all digital and ofcourse uses just one cable. You have to have a very good eye to notice the differences because they are pretty minute, or if you have a lot of interference near your TV (which would affect component).
Plus you are viewing HD cable which at max is 720p or 1080i. You may notice a little more difference viewing 1080p content in movies via Blu-Ray/HD DVD or games via Playstation 3/ Xbox 360.

almost always the difference IF any is in your set and how you calibrate the input settings for each input and the source to it. usually you can get each input to look equally as good although the settings for each may be the same or somewhat different. THEN just pick which you actually prefer and use that. it's been asked and answered many times on avs.
and you maybe able to see that if you say used a oppo dvd hooked up by hdmi to your set that may need a different setting then say a pioneer dvd player hooked up by the same hdmi cable to the same set but you use different input settings.
another example: i use a hd tivo and a S3 tivo and i have to tone down and use lower color/contrast/brightness settings with the S3 whether using component or hdmi for either. same cables and display but different settings for each source/input. different settings for different sources on the same cable then also different settings for the different sources if i switched to the other cable/input
