I seen it there finally but whats with them and New releases for HD movies? Bob Meridian 04-10-07, 01:35 PM My store had them. Dr Kain 04-10-07, 08:23 PM Payback is the only one stores are carrying. tauheel05 04-10-07, 08:52 PM best buy is awful all the way around. stevesns69 04-10-07, 11:44 PM Best Buy is too expensive on hi def and they just don't seem to care about the customer anymore. I'm taking my business elsewhere. I had a much better shopping experience at Circuit City today, so I suppose they will be getting my money from now on. They aren't as cheap as internet companies, but I didn't have to wait over a week for a new release and they were actually on the shelf. Donnie Eldridge 04-11-07, 12:39 AM Every BB I've been to has a lousy selection of movies and their prices are even worse. If I'm feeling an impulse buy and don't care about paying 5 bucks more, then Circuit City seems to have what I want, even though I hate how they stack all the high def movies in rows you have to sift through to see what they have. so's your face 04-11-07, 01:04 AM best buy wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the high prices, the lousy customer service, the ridiculous return policy, the uninformed sales people, and their worthless tech department... i've also taken my wallet over to cicuit city, and have found several harder to find BD's like the Ant Bully. one time, however, i did engage in a conversation with a salesman in the speaker dept. at CC and he asked what kind i use and told him i used Definitive Tech and he shook his head and said, this is word for word, "i don't know that brand... you must shop at best buy a lot" my wife nearly fell over laughing at the poor guy. BTBuck1 04-11-07, 01:07 AM My BB does not Have any of the new releases this week. However, My Fry's has now increased their BD section to two 4 ft. sections meanwhile the HDDVD section is only one four foot section. It really makes a striking comparison for the whole 2:1 sales ratio trend we have going. TwinTurboZX 04-11-07, 01:15 AM My BB does not Have any of the new releases this week. The Blu-ray section is growing while the HDDVD section is shrinking with respect to shelf space. Looks like retailers are starting to loose interest in HDDVD which is great news. :) GizmoDVD 04-11-07, 01:34 AM Yes, I noticed that at my local Fry's and CC also. Enjoy it...dosn't look like its gonna stay that way forever. bunsojr 04-11-07, 01:39 AM Apparently a lot of retailers don't get their shipments in time for the release dates, as well as just being lazy and not putting the damn things on the shelves. Here's an article I read on the highdefdigest website. http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Industry_Trends/High-Def_Disc_Rentals/High-Def_Retailing/Retailers_Report_Missed_Street_Dates_for_HD_DVD,_Blu-ray_Discs/565 BTBuck1 04-11-07, 02:04 AM Enjoy it...dosn't look like its gonna stay that way forever. because HDDVD is going to make a miraculous comeback right? joerod 04-11-07, 07:34 AM I despise BB for their HIGH prices! Especially combos! Amazon Baby! :D Rachael Bellomy 04-11-07, 11:26 AM because HDDVD is going to make a miraculous comeback right? Toshiba went on an advertising spree that seemed to target the NCAA basketball tourney. That's where I repeatedly saw their ad with the stinger for the free discs. The race might tighten up if that worked...? It certainly wouldn't qualify as a miracle. Miracles are when your favourite messiah can take incompatiable discs and turn them into Blue-rays or turn Pepsi into Coca-Cola. FatiusJeebs 04-11-07, 11:29 AM Every BB I've been to has a lousy selection of movies and their prices are even worse. I have to agree. Although I don't own blu-ray....HD-DVD titles are an arm and a leg at their store. I won't shop there anymore either. qz3fwd 04-11-07, 12:19 PM I shop there all the time, BUT I always print out the Target(Amazon) listing and have them price match. Once they see the Target symbol printed out-bingo. chris r in pa 04-11-07, 01:23 PM BB sucks IMO...used to be good store...now it is just way overpriced on most anything, especially BD and HDDV. Rachael Bellomy 04-11-07, 01:30 PM BB sucks IMO...used to be good store...now it is just way overpriced on most anything, especially BD and HDDV. They've only been in Knoxville a few years, we must of missed the good ole dayz of Busted Buy. ;) Fettastic 04-11-07, 01:48 PM Don't give Best Buy your money, they don't deserve it. Mine had Payback on BD, but that's it. Titles are all available and for 30% cheaper at amazon.com. I just received Dog Day Afternoon, Payback and A Scanner Darkly for $53.86 shipped. DanLW 04-11-07, 02:25 PM For those of you who have Entertainmarts in your town, they do carry Blu-Ray, but it's mixed in with all the regular DVDs, so finding them may take a while of looking. I got Terminator on Blu-Ray for $16. The only thing with Entertainmart is that everything they sell is used. They do warranty the disks, but I still check the surface before leaving anyway. Citing the 10% discount that most people don't get isn't exactly a fair comparison of Amazon's available bargains, though. Rachael Bellomy 04-11-07, 03:47 PM Citing the 10% discount that most people don't get isn't exactly a fair comparison of Amazon's available bargains, though. Even if I didn't get the 10% discount, sorry they closed the window for ya, they'd stille be cheaper than local for me, unless I found a really low price at Tar-jeaux or Wally World. Then I might get close to Amazon's asking price...? TwinTurboZX 04-11-07, 11:22 PM Blu-Ray is selling, therefore the section would be bigger. Enjoy it...dosn't look like its gonna stay that way forever. Blu-ray has been kicking HDDVD's teeth in for 3 months now but only recently did they make these changes at the store. Anyways you're right it's not going to stay that way forever because the HDDVD shelf space is going to keep shrinking while Blu-ray grows. ;) jwv651 04-11-07, 11:35 PM HD DVD and BD is NOT going over very well at BB...from what a store manager told me...and by the way he's a personal friend of mine and my sons...his regional told him this last week. Not Good News !!! Rachael Bellomy 04-12-07, 12:17 AM HD DVD and BD is NOT going over very well at BB...from what a store manager told me...and by the way he's a personal friend of mine and my sons...his regional told him this last week. Not Good News !!! Relay the message that they have the highest prices on software both east and west of Rio Mississippi....and north of Fargo. JadedRaverLA 04-12-07, 12:29 AM HD DVD and BD is NOT going over very well at BB...from what a store manager told me...and by the way he's a personal friend of mine and my sons...his regional told him this last week. Not Good News !!! As others have said, their prices are too high. However, one of the worst thing that can happen for format adoption is for all the early adopters to ONLY buy their discs from Amazon, causing B&M stores to massively reduce inventory... and eventually just stop carrying the discs. Given that sales of high def discs are so low, B&M stores have a much higher operating cost than online retailers, and shelf spaced is so valuable, can you really expect them to have the same price as Amazon.com. I try to buy discs at Best Buy occaisonally, just to keep them from pulling a LaserDisc move, and cementing Blu-ray as a niche market product, that you'll only be able to get online or in video stores that sell discs at MSRP. AaronSCH 04-12-07, 12:52 PM Every BB I've been to has a lousy selection of movies and their prices are even worse. That pretty much sums it up. Best Buy doesn't give its potential customers much credit for intelligence. It is a different world of retailing these days and the early adopters know how to sniff out a bargain. Best Buy is a rather pathetic electronics retailer that is easily accessible for most consumers. The last Blu-ray disc I purchased from them was during the "Buy One, Get One Free" promotion. I don't even walk in to browse their stores any longer. However, I feel like a kid in a candy store when visiting a Fry's Electronics. Once again, their selection and pricing are terrific for impulse purchases. Otherwise, Amazon gets the majority of my hard-earned dough. Best Buy has the same, if not lower, price for DVDs compared to amazon. They're just trying to cash in on the new HD formats. Screw 'em I say! Nobody is doing them any favors by buying there, just confirming that their prices are good enough to move product. That's the wrong message for everybody. |
