For HDMI input on the Pearl, should the HDMI signal being sent be set at RGB or YCbCr?

I have noticed that using the HDMI input, the Sony Pearl does not seem to do a better job at de-interlacing then the DCDi by Faroudja. If I feed it 1080i I see a lot more artifacts then if I send it 480P. I would imagine 1080P is going to look the best feed to the Pearl (especially at 24hz).

Mark,

In my experience, the Pearl does a pretty good job of deinterlacing. I'm feeding mine 1080i from the HD-A2 and the results are excellent. I see no artifacts--I remember seeing a review that commented on how well the Pearl handled 1080i. I find the image to be at least as good as, if not better, than 1080p on my PS3.

Perhaps it is only with SD-DVD then? How to they compare on the HD-A2 when setting the output to 480P versus 1080I?

I'm using YCbCr and currently feeding mine 576p from a Faroudja DCDi equiped DVD player rather than 1080i as I also think it looks better. Not so much artifacts or jaggies but better fine detail. May well be a Faroudja issue rather than poor de-interlacing in the Pearl as 1080i from digital telly looks fine. And looking forward to seeing 1080/24p @96hz

Which player are you using and how do you get 576p out of it?

Panasonic S97s (PAL model), spits out 576p, 720p and 1080i via HDMI.
