BD Folk like to talk about day and date, blockbusters etc. right?

Has anyone gone to Universalpictures.com lately? Very nice lineup on the way. I see lots of gems on the list. That movie with Denzel and Russel Crowe, the new Bourne movie, etc. Why do some act like if Universal just stopped making movies?Cant wait until that stuff hits.

Take a look at the site, which ones would you buy right off the bat?

None, if the discs play as badly as Children of Men.

I'm sure that issue will be nailed in the butt soon enough.

As for your comments about upcoming Universal titles. I'm with you on that...there's a lot out there that looks great!! I love the Bourne series. I can't wait to get The Bourne Identity on HD DVD. I will no longer be worried about wearing out my D-Theater copy... ;) Universal is also coming on strong with great catalog titles, too...(well, I really enjoy quite a few of them!)...Lost in Translation, Darkman, Eternal Sunshine, The Game, The Jerk. I know I see A LOT more I like over here... :)

I also want to add that looking on highdefdigest and man does Universal have the movies stacked for the up coming months! Warner, Dreamworks and paramount are great but I was just shocked to see all the movies they are putting out up to July.

And the up coming new releases from universal also look good! I think they are doing a great job!!!!

Let's not forget the upcoming Weinstien releases! Can't wait to get Grindhouse on HD :D

Does The Descent still give certain BD players trouble? Just wondering.

Universal has a nice lineup, I agree. The reason they don't get mentioned is they haven't really been making the mega-popcorn blockbusters lately. They kind of stopped after King Kong, which did bring in about $550 million worldwide. I'm sure they expected more.

Yeah just noticed that myself, interesting.
Revolution Studios was originally set to produce this sequel but had to pull out once Sony decided they no longer wanted to fund Revolution Studios. Sony put the rights up for sale since they felt Hellboy wasn't a profitable franchise for them. Universal felt differently and bought the rights to make the sequel immediately.

Sweet. The first Hellboy was a good time, I'm sure the sequel will be worthwhile.

Universal has stepped up to the plate. Here's hoping The Frighteners has the 3 1/2 hour documentary on it.

The frustration with Universal came from them not bothering to announce anything at CES while the BD group announced a landslide of titles. It took a couple of weeks for the earthquake to reverberate over to Universal and a few more before they announced titles. Once they did, everything was fine, but their slowness to reveal their slate and lack of releases in the first 3 months of the year signaled their possible lack of faith in the format.

That's where that sentiment came from but it has changed since.

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind might, in fact, become my first HD double-dip. I already own the 2-Disc CE DVD, but this is such an amazing and beautiful movie that just the thought of it receiving the full HD DVD treatment has me salivating.

Then that would be excellent since I had no problems with Children of Men on any of my HD DVD players.

Weinstein has already said they'll be breaking the movies up for two DVDs so get ready to spend twice as much.

Not only that, they are thinking the length kept people away from the movie do they are thinking of breaking the current theatrical run up into two movies.

Same here. I don't deny that there has been trouble with the disc (obviously, given reports). But that doesn't mean that EVERYONE (or even the majority) have had problems.

I have an A1 (running 2.0) and it plays flawlessly start to finish. I've already watched it twice.

And, yes, Fett hit the nail on the head. The bad feelings about Universal are an absurd reaction to (perceived) issues with CES. Of course -- and I hope BOTH sides take this into account for next year -- we saw how it actually turned out. Universal is actually showing tremedous support through actions (releasing lots of catalog titles and recent hits) and Fox cancelled most of what they promised.

I'm just hoping that Universal gets some TV stuff out soon. They have lots of shows that I'd love to buy.

I personally think the ad campaign failed them. The length is an easy excuse, but that didn't stop Titanic (or Gone with the Wind, for that matter) from cashing in at the box office.

i believe it was the ads too, the trailer me and my friends saw before 300 made Grindhouse look real dumb

if it wasnt for some other stuff i read online i never would have gone to see it... and im glad i did! :D

but some of my other buddies who saw the trailer before 300 refuse to see grindhouse because of how dumb it was ..... thats alot of people that saw 300.. ...

im double dipping the grindhouse this weekend and takin some of my buddies that refused before, i know they will love this movie!

I blame the release date more than the ad campaign (which was adequate if unspectacular). Let's all give a round of applause for the person who decided to release a 3+ hour hard-R movie over the Easter weekend when if anyone goes to the theater they do so as a family. Weinstein deserved to lose out to "Are We Done Yet?" and "The Robinsons" ... and if they do split up the movie to eke more cash out of their customers I'll be passing ... it was bad enough they turned Kill Bill into 2 seperate and somewhat bloated movies.

What parts of Kill Bill Vol/ 1 are "bloated"?
What parts of Kill Bill Vol/ 2 are "bloated"?

No body knows how widely spread this problem is. It may effect 90% or 1%. This is totally off topic.

On topic, I really hope we start seeing more dayand date releases from all studios. I'm sure we will.

Fox hasn't cancelled anything. There's a bottleneck at the production plants so several titles were delayed. We'll get them soon enough. I just hope they look better than the sorry batch they released last time.

Great stuff.

Amazing how on studio can give this much support to HD DVD. They are releasing more movies that several of BDA studios combined...that is the true definition of "STUDIO SUPPORT". :)

A delay is what Weinstein just did...
You postpone the title TO ANOTHER ANNOUNCED DATE....NOT INDEFINATELY!

I have bought tickets to concerts that were postponed to later dates...and some that were cancelled...

Without an announced date...the term is CANCELLED!

So until Universal just made all their announcements, they were no longer supporting HD DVD?
