Very interesting that TWC has chosen to use the AVC codec rather than VC-1.

They have always done so. :)

These two were originally announced w/o TrueHD tracks, so I'll wait a couple more weeks for TrueHD! :D

Weinstein has been doing a great job with HD DVD movies despite their small library of movies.

I really want Harsh Times, I've had it pre-ordered forever now. The more Bale the better.

Agree with both of you - Bale's a good actor and Eva's smokin' hot :D I've heard good things about this one... Anyone actually seen the movie?

Weren't they the ones whose first few releases were plagued with problems? Or am I thinking of a different studio?

They had slow bootup problems. People where complaining that the discs were broken, then people started suggesting that they pop the disc in and walk away. Turns on that from acceptance of the disc to the disc loading was about 4 minutes. This was only an issue with the first two weeks of Weinstein releases and was also corrected by the next Firmware update.

Harsh Times was a decent movie. Not nearly as "action" packed as the cover pic would lead you to believe :P If anything, it shows how much folks hold themselves back in life. Not much Longoria, certainly nothing HD is gonna enhance :P Enjoyable flick, just don't expect something like Crank.

I've been waiting on Black X-mas till HD-DVD, hurry up!

Back when they were running Miramax, they eventually became notorious for buying and then shelving many titles, sometimes for years. Hopefully being on their own and away from the temtation of Disney bonuses (which reportedly led to the aforementioned shelvings) will change things for the better.

That said, the Weinstein HD DVDs that I've seen (Matador, Slevin and Pulse) all looked great (even though Pulse was crap).

I haven't seen Harsh Times yet. Got it in queue. I don't mind waiting a little longer as long as they're adding stuff, like TrueHD. :D

It is nice to see Weinstein releasing more films with TrueHD tracks :)

For those interested in Black Christmas, I've had this movie for almost 2 weeks and I must say that this transfer is simply stunning, one of the better HD DVDs in my collection.

I thought Black Christmas was one of the most attrocious, cliche ridden modern horror movies I've seen, and not in a good way. I've seen bad ones and that one was REALLY bad.

I've yet to see the original from the 70's, but it can't be much worse.

The original is actually directed by the same guy who directed A Christmas Story. It's a Canadian production, and I'm pretty sure it predates both Halloween and When A Stranger Calls, but wasn't released in the US until after those two.

I only saw it for the first time last year. I liked it, just keep in mind it's from the early 70s.

I haven't seen the remake, but I might rent it just out of curiousity and because it's on HD. :D Hell, I sat through the new Wicker Man in HD (with TrueHD). A laff riot, let me tell you.

The more Longoria the better :p

Just watch a Spurs game and you'll see a cut to her every 4.26 seconds. It is a joke, she is good looking but I want to watch basketball not her reaction to every basket.

Just started to watch Harsh Times, I was very surprised to see that it offers TrueHD 5.1.

How is the PQ?

How is the PQ?Rough, but it's at least partially intentional. It's a low budget flick shot on grainy 16mm stock.

The original BLACK CHRISTMAS was released in US theaters years before HALLOWEEN and STRANGERS.
