I'm planning on getting a 50inch sxrd a2020 and would like to know if dust and possibly a little smoke/soot from a woodstove would be sucked in by the fan and effect the screen or light engine? Basically do I need to worry about it ruining the tv.
Hope not cause the tv is beautiful...

Absolutely! Those fans will suck any airborne contaminate that will fit through the filter (assuming there is one) right through the cooling path, and everything else for that matter.

Does anyone have a projection tv and have problems with dust etc with the fans?? I really like the picture on this tv but don't want to kill it with a little smoke and dust in the winter.

The fans aren't a vacuum cleaner, and they don't even move much air. I've felt around the vents, and there seems to be mildly positive pressure exiting all of them. I'm not sure where air goes in at.
You should probably clean a projection TV out every few years or so, just on general principle. But I'd say if the soot and dust aren't hurting you, they probably won't hurt the TV.

posts # 4223 shows pics of filthy interior mirror and the guy going through steps to clean it.
this is in the mitsubishi wd 62525 series from 2 years ago. they were known to need cleaning every 6-12 months because of a foam filter that kept coming loose near the mirror area. not the sony you asked for just showing you it does happen in rptvs.
