I've been involved in a thread over at CNET (CNET forum (http://forums.cnet.com/5208-4_102-0.html?forumID=60&threadID=233474&messageID=2456472#2456472)) about MITSU DLPs. Many DLP models have a similar problem. Immediately after power on, a message pops up that says the TV will shut off in a few seconds and to check if the air flow is blocked. Indeed the TV does shut off and often the lamp overtemp light comes on. A power off/unplug and system reset will sometimes fix the problem... for a while. I've had a tech out (thru Mits customer service) and he reseated the lamp and temp sensor connectors. This solved the problem for about a month. Then it hapeened again, and again, and again. Another call to Mits service and they ordered a new temp sensor which should get here next week. Others report that they've gone as far as having the entire light engine replaced (that's about 2/3 the cost of the TV).

Have you experienced this problem with your Mits DLP? If you have, please list the model number and whether you've had work done on your set or whether you've experienced other issues. Maybe we can get Mits to recall these beasts. I'll start.

I am one of the other people monitoring and contributing at the other site. My set was out of service for over one month, but in warranty. I did have the light engine/bulb replaced on my 65831.

It took forever to get something going to fix this set, but I think now most of the problem was that the local authorized service company was not paying their bills to Mistubishi and I was stuck in the middle. Basically, I think Mistubishi refused to send parts to them to fix my TV. Mitsubishi's fault was that they did nothing to reassign a new company to fix the problem so I was stuck in the middle until I got really fed up and spent ALL DAY on the phone a couple Fridays ago and made a royal PITA out of myself. Lo and behold the light engine and lamp show up and are installed in less than one week with a new local service company.

Moral of the story is do not assume that others care about you and your broken TV. Look out for number one.

Bottom line is the problem is fixed at Mitsubishi's expense & the glorious picture I have always expected is back. Only time will tell if it holds, but I did have this problem right from the start back in November when I had the TV. It got progressively worse and then the original service company finally broke it for good. I still can't beleive it took a light engine/lamp to fix it....unless they know something we don't. The company that fixed it finally said when I pressed to learn the real fix--"we just did what Mitsubishi told us to do"--meaning the light engine and lamp.

I propose we add serial numbers to this list to see if there are any trends. I am traveling now and can't add mine at the moment, but can when I return.
