I'm thinking about picking up a PS3 in the next week or two, but I had a couple of questions real fast about the audio connection possibilities (I apoligize if they're a bit on the newbie level).
1.) If I'm using an HDMI-DVI cable to hook to my TV (my 55" Mitsu only has DVI-I in for digital), I can still run a toslink to my Denon reciever, yes?
2.) As I don't have an HDMI reciever I know that the only way to get true DDTrueHD is to use a multi-analog out, is this a sound possibility with the PS3 (I'd be willing to use component for the video connection if necessary)?

1. Yes, you can run a toslink to your receiver for DD & DTS. During BD/DVD setup, choose: BD Audio output (optical) > Bitstream.
2. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm almost certain that you have to have a 7.1 HDMI receiver to get DDTrueHD.

Thanks for the response. I was afraid that was the answer to question 2. I just got my Denon-2805 2 years ago (it's a true 7.1. reciever, but no HDMI support), so I'm not really looking to replace it yet. I'll just have to make due with DD5.1 and the various DTS's on my Blu-Ray movies for the time being.

When you setup audio out on your PS3, you have option to choose the sound to go out from HDMI, Optical or Multi AV Adaptor. Only one at a time.
PS3 does not currently have a 5.1 audio Multi AV adaptor. Your PS3 comes with a Composite Multi AV Adaptor which has 2 channels audio analog out. The optional Component Multi AV Adaptor also only has 2 channels audio analog out. So there is no option at the moment to have a 5.1 analog out from PS3 to connect to the 5.1 analog input of your receiver.
For lossless PCM 5.1 tracks, PS3 will output 5.1 channels through HDMI. If you select Optical or Multi AV, only 2 channels PCM track will go out. Some people has good result by using the Dolby surround processor in AV Receiver to decode the 2 channels sound for surround effect.
For TrueHD tracks, PS3 will decode the tracks internally to PCM before send out. Similar to above, all 5.1 channels will be send out as PCM if you choose HDMI. Only 2 channels PCM will go out if you choose optical or Multi AV.
I am in similar situation as you. I have an HDMI LCD TV, a PS3 and an non-HDMI AV Receiver. I connect HDMI from PS3 to LCD TV for video. And I connect optical from PS3 to AV Receiver. I setup PS3 to output PCM via the optical. I setup my AV Receiver to process the 2 channels track for surround effect. I will wait till end of year before upgrade AV Receiver as this is when you will get more choices of AV Receiver that can support HD audio properly.

Why did you choose PCM instead of Bitstream?
Curious, because I've heard on this forum that you should set the output to Bitstream. I just bought a PS3 and I plan on setting it up this weekend. I have the same setup as you, HDMI to PDP & optical to receiver.
What brand of receiver do you have? I have an HK AVR 245 that I bought refurbished on their Ebay site.
