View Full Version : RS1 owners what were your previous digital projectors?
funlvr1965 04-11-07, 07:42 PM Im still waiting for my RS-1 to arrive (3rd batch), the RS1 will coincide with my Marantz vp-11s1 (notice I didnt say replace), Im using two screens in my theater, one is a motorized 110" diagonal Dalite Highpower (16x9) and the other screen which im currently using the Marantz with is a 133" (10ft viewable) 2.35 Highpower with Isco3 lens. I hear the a lot of positve comments (and negatives) about the RS1 but what are the new owners comparing it to? in essence what projector are your upgrading from?
Catdaddy67 04-11-07, 08:25 PM Ive owned the Sharp 10, Sharp 12k, and most recently a very nicely aligned/no bright corners Ruby that you might have some personal experience with. 8)

Dude,
With all due respect, you've got money to burn! Is there a room where a projector does not exist? JK

funlvr1965 04-11-07, 11:42 PM hmm no simm,DP or Runco converts? like I said the theater is setup to revolve around two projectors, in the end I went with a budget option which is the RS1, if that doesnt work out I might look at more flexible options as the second pj such as the Benq W10000 or if sharp suddenly takes a left turn pricewise thats a definate candidate although the thought of only a 1 year warranty really bugs me, In the end there will be two projectors however It would be nice to have two competing technologies under one roof., heres a pic of the setup, things are still under construction and in the works

Infocus 7200 (with a Toshiba MT8 label)
Rob Tomlin 04-12-07, 11:43 PM Dwin TV3 (720p dlp)
This is my first "upgrade" of my projector. The Dwin did good for 3 1/2 years. The RS1 will do better for at least that long! :)
Health Nut 04-12-07, 11:55 PM HA! I used a DWIN HD700 CRT for 6 years up until last year when I bought a Sony Ruby/ISCO 3 and went to 2.35 CIH. I have to say I'm proud of the fact that I never contributed a dime to DLP. (Future 3-chip 1080p remains a possibility, but after seeing all these wonderful 1080p products... still see no reason to buy a future 3 chip 1080p DLP)
then Sony Ruby and now the best of the batch: JVC RS1. Got it today and Love it. Remarkable picture. Stunning.
I'm specifically interested in hearing from Bob Sorel, Alan, and other Ruby owners who also now have this projector or anybody who has made a good comparison. I'm thinking of putting the Ruby in the Bedroom (less use, less issue with bulb hours) and getting the RS-1 for the main room. Of course that would mean that the RS-1 would have to be significantly better than the Ruby. Is there anything the Ruby does better? Does that Xenon bulb in the Ruby do anything better? Just how much difference is there?
I'm curious about the "Diamond", is that what the next Sony model is? But if it has a dynamic Iris, I doubt I'll be interested. JVC has designed a better chip, and Sony needs to do the same. JVC has shown that a better designed chip needs no stinking Iris and the problems that come with it...
Catdaddy67 04-13-07, 12:18 AM One thing the Ruby does better with is fan noise. 8)
I am going from a Sony HS-20 to the JVC RS-1

Health Nut 04-13-07, 12:26 AM Are there any detailed comparisons between the Ruby and the RS-1 in any other posts?
Health Nut 04-13-07, 12:20 PM One thing the Ruby does better with is fan noise. 8)
Could someone please put into perspective the improvements of the RS-1 over the Ruby? So you say that the RS-1 is improved in every category over the Ruby except for fan noise?
From what I understand so far, the Foot Lamberts is about the same and the main improvement would be the lack of brightness compression which alone helps in many categories of improved picture quality, shadow detail, better black level, etc... So just how much of an improvement is noticeable?
Mark Petersen 04-13-07, 02:03 PM JVC DILA loyalty award goes to Mark Petersen.
6 months ago saying that a person liked JVC DILA wasn't considered cool. The RS-1 has allowed me to come out of the closet :D
Ettepet 04-13-07, 02:08 PM Are there any detailed comparisons between the Ruby and the RS-1 in any other posts?
Look at the reviews mentioned in the JVC DLA-RS1 Owner's Thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=813550) for comparisons to the Pearl, Ruby and others. ;)
juicelee 04-13-07, 02:15 PM Bought an AE900 back in september. After this weekend (when my RS arrives), the panny will be moved to light gaming duties. I didn't know FedEx ground included Saturday delivery (unless the guys at avs paid a little more for that - if that's the case....thanks :) )
bluedevils 04-13-07, 02:57 PM I can relate. My G11 is over 6 years. The drop in noise and power usage in themselves was worth the upgrade! I noticed there are a decent number of people upgrading from G series JVC machines.
G15, a little over 6 years old now. Very nice upgrade. :D
bluedevils 04-13-07, 03:25 PM or if you read alan's post from a different perspective
Cool thread Award goes to funlvr1965
- most time on hands waiting for third wave of rs-1
JVC DILA loyalty award goes to Mark Petersen.
- most impatient for DILA technology to reach perfection
Most CRTs owned by one person award goes to Per Johnny.
- most likely to be working in a projector repair shop
Most upgrade award goes to Bob Sorel with Muncey not far behind.
- least happy with any picture, but still looking for projector nirvana
Got the most out of his purchase award goes to Chris Carollo
- best person at leaving this forum for years at a time or best person for loving whatever he's already got.
The smartest of us all for not falling for the upgrade bug Award ( but that actually eliminates him from this thread ) goes to Millerwill.
- just a person starting to answer his inner calling
Kevin McCarthy 04-13-07, 08:45 PM Technically this doesn't count, but the RS-1 will be our first front projector. 100" diagonal motorized Da-Lite HP. HD-A2 player.
