View Full Version : RS1 owners with a PS3 and/or 360. How is the gaming performance?

I have not seen much mention of how the RS1 looks/does with gaming on the PS3 and/or 360.

There are 2 main things I am curious about.

The first is how well does the Gennum in the RS1 upscale 720p (to 1080p) PS3 games? Any noise or artifacts in the image, or does it look perfectly clean?

The second is what resolution are 360 owners feeding the RS1 with, 1080i or 720P and how does it look in general? Has anyone tried both 720p and 1080i and did you see any difference? If so, which was prefered?

I dont plan to do a lot of gaming, but will do some and am very curious about the General performance with the RS1 and in particular the things I mentioned.

Thanks

I'll be able to post on this tonight for the PS3... We'll be trying to freak ourselves out with Resistance Fall of Man.
I'm running through a Lumagen HDQ by the way...

I've briefly played RFoM (720p) on mine through the PS3. I have no complaints, but it should be noted that I believe the PS3 was sending a 1080p signal to the RS1. Overall this PJ does an excellent job with CGI material. I wouldn't buy this PJ just to play games on it, but it can certainly handle the task. My only real concern would be burn-in as I understand it COULD be an issue, but I've never heard of anyone having a problem with it.

I can say that my DLP PJ does appear sharper and faster (quicker response), but I must admit that I do see some RBE while playing games on the DLP (I don't while watching 95% of movies on it).

Thanks for the report Wet1.

From what I have read, The PS3 cant upconvert games so it sends the game at its native signal which would be 720p (atleast for RFoM). Is this not correct?

I have a 360 I've probably played 50 hours on the RS-1. Running component to Denon receiver and HDMI to the projector. Outputting 1080i. Haven't tried 720p yet and see no reason to. Looks awesome. I have not seen any image retention at all.

I don't have a PS3 as the only reason I would buy one is for blu-ray and I'm not sure when the PS3 will add 1080p24 support (if it will).

would any RS1 owner be willing to post some gaming screen shots?

I have a 360 and PS3 connected to my RS1, they both look great. Motorstorm and Gears of War on a 110" screen are beautiful.

360 set to 1080i, Component
PS3 all resolutions checked on, HDMI

How on earth could burn-in be an issue? that only occurs with phosphors in a CRT (AFAIK). That was one of the joys of getting rid of my CRT and going with a Sony Ruby... May go with an RS-1 as well.

Playing God of war 2, upscaled to 1080p by the Lumagen HDQ, looks great. Wish it was a PS3 game designed to be 1080p game, but GOW 2 is so much fun!!!

I'm curious about this as well, although my question would be;

for older game consoles sending 480i/p directly into the RS1 (e.g., no vp), is there a noticeable lag? I love me fighting games :)

Health Nut, look around the web for a way to play GoW 2 in 'real' 480p.

Oh here I'll give you the link :)

How does the Rs1 handle the motion of say a fps(first person shooter) compared to a DLP projector? Would you say theirs more motion blur or the same or less?

I have played some xbox 360 games on my RS1 and everything looks great. I do have PS3 with 2 games but haven't tried them out yet...I will soon.

The reason to do this is the 360 has most games outputting at a native 720p@60fps.

1080i draws 1920x540fields at 60fps - and it's resized from 720p. Unless the RS1 has poor upscaling capabilities, 720p on native 720p games (which is 99% of them) should look better. If you had it outputting 1080p over component it should look the same or better, depending on whether the 360 is better at upscaling than your projector.

Answer: it looks awesome.

Note: the RS1 can't do 1080p over component. You'll have to wait for the new XBox with HDMI support.

so the best setting i should have the 360 set to would be 720p with the rs1?

Don't have time for the link... Not sure if you read my post. I said UPSCALED by my LUMAGEN HDQ, a video processor.... upscaled from 480p to 1080p by the processor. It works great and no delay or whatver...

The Ps3 does Blu Ray at 1080p60 and 1080p24 from what I understand.... perhaps I'm wrong and it only does 1080p60, but I could have sworn it is capable of 1080p24....

Maybe you should make time.
