View Full Version : Never Buy a Projector!

We live in a fantasy world. As forum members we constantly look for ways to feed our craving for all things a/v. Over the years I have spent lots of money and time in the pursuit of "audio/video nirvana". I am coming to the conclusion that AVSFORUM is the devil at work. We learn of new products, fantasize about buying them, sometimes we take the plunge and then WHAM.............!

I joined AVS many years ago and actually think the forum is on the path to destruction. Instead of a source of news, ideas, support and ........dare I say FUN, the general tone is becoming "mine is better than yours" or worse. Many threads simply vanish without comment. Recent "shipping status......" posts for example. Certain members enjoy being rude to others and the mod's allow them to continue to flail away.

I wish that Alan Gouger would step in more often. We all know he is the force behind this forum. I really liked it when members were quick to help, but now are quick to pounce. Yes, I have benefited many times from this forum and made some mistakes along the way, but thats life ;)

Oh yeah, about that projector thing in the thread title......I am eagerly awaiting my eventual delivery of.........dare I say it..........my RS1. This will be my first projector. My dedicated home theater was completed in November 2005. I could have bought ANY projector on the market, but after 50 years on earth I have learned to be patient. Yes I have seen it in person. Been to CES twice over the years. Seen lots of projectors since November 2005 and before as well.

Will I be happy? I hope so. Will I continue to visit this forum on a regular basis? I hope so. Will the forum continue to be influenced by members who thrive on a "negative agenda"? I hope NOT! It's time for Alan to step in. Kick out the members that have nothing but "negative" to contribute. He has that right! I for one look forward to MY future and will refuse to allow others to "*iss on" my choices.

Enjoy your hobby and may God bless! :)

Alan cant be everywhere at all times. Sometimes he probably leaves the forum for a few hours and sleeps!

But seriously, at the end of the day all of us are friends. Go to an AVS party at one of the shows and this will be evident. You'll see cats living with dogs. :)

I will say you may be the only one that is being patient waiting for their new projector ;)

We're just like little kids...but older

He's been waiting since 2005. How does he do it?

Alan is a great guy and very busy, he personally handled some issues I had recently with a purchase. It's extremely rare to find an owner of a company that will take the time to do this. He is on the forum frequently and although he does not post much he is aware of what happens here.

I just wanted to thank AVS for their great service, support and pricing. I have dealt with Jason, Tryg and Alan, they were all very professional and will continue to get my business.

The forum can get "rough" at times, just stay out of the squabbles. I have met new friends locally from the forum and have learned a lot.

By the time you receive it, there will be something better, cheaper, smaller, and easier to use on the market. You should have waited. And in fact something better than that will come out as well, so you should wait for that. And then something even better will come to wait for. And after that....

I don't think it's nearly as bad as gmanhdtv says. With so many memebers, there's always the obnoxious few, but most people are pretty reasonable.

I just want to say my dream is almost complete because of this site... Need trim, stage, crown molding, and carpet..... then I'll post the pictures....

140" SMX screen which I learned about here.
Sony Pearl read all about it here. Really made that decision to spend the $$$ a lot easier.
Onkyo 804 long time Onkyo fan so no credit to the site on that one.
Oppo 981HD Never even heard of Oppo before this site.
Many, many, many of my design decisions where made based on pictures I saw here.

I expect the RS-1 is a better projector but 1 it cost more and 2 I'm happy with what I got... My project has a better HD Picture than my Mits Diamond 62". I still like my DLP though...

There are alot of negative posts but most are funny and you got to know people are people and they always want to claim to have the best....
