View Full Version : I propose we outlaw the term "fanboy"
kthacher 04-12-07, 02:59 PM This seems to be the derogatory "term de jour", and is used by those who disagree with someones positive perspective about a particular projector. Can't we have differing opinions without resorting to this type of insult?
b.greenway 04-12-07, 03:02 PM That's the problem with limiting speech, they'll just find a new "term de jour".
Let me add to the list:
newb
troll
OMG!
WTF
most smiley's
"old news"
"move on",
and all other schoolgirl-type phrases.

Is it okay if I call myself a newb and I spell it differently? (noob)
scottyb 04-12-07, 03:30 PM I'm a fanboy of outlawing the term fanboy.
jmanthey 04-12-07, 04:19 PM Just out of curiosity, what would you call someone who posts a few hundred times about a projector before owning said projector? Is their eventual assessment of the projector objective?

Projective?

A sales prospect? Seriously, this is an enthusiast site. People get excited about the latest and greatest and want to talk about the new kid on the block. Maybe such a person is objective, maybe not. However, it does not make a whole population of people who are enthusiastic about a new projector "fanboys". I take the term to mean people whose opinion cannot be trusted, since they have turned into biased cheerleaders. I don't think that description applies to most people here that are being called fanboys.
IvanDemyanych 04-12-07, 04:54 PM Not much happening in Winnipeg today?

WTF, it's old news that the fanboys get upset when the trolls post negative opinions on their favorite projectors. OMG, it's time to move on because you're acting like a newb. :)

Man Law!
strange_brew 04-12-07, 07:30 PM I think we should adopt the term in units' moniker (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/member.php?userid=7662626)
"fanclown"
kills me every time I see it. lol.
Isn't it actually "fanboi"? :)
I use 'Fanboi'. If the shoe fits :)

ChrisWiggles 04-12-07, 08:50 PM Absolutetly. It's a sexist term.
It should be fanperson.
:D

I'd call them a sTALKER.
I forgot one - "pull the trigger".
WTF, it's old news that the fanboys get upset when the trolls post negative opinions after they pulled the trigger and bought the new favorite projector. OMG, it's time to move on because you're acting like a newb. :)
rickster904 04-13-07, 10:24 AM I have no problem with the term if we use it with care. There are fanboys here.
golfnz34me 04-13-07, 10:25 AM I suggest that instead of outlawing the term "fanboy", that we instead outlaw actual fanboys!
Of course, this is coming from a nappy-headed pro-ho!
Mike
Flooper 04-13-07, 10:59 AM Censorship fanboy! :p
