Yep - be interesting to see what the quality is like - and whether it is a 60i release of 50i to 60i conversion, or a 24p release of a 25p to 24p conversion.

Hmm I preordered from Warner during the 30% off sale but I wasn't expecting it to ship till next week - not sure the money's in my account... any idea why it's shipped so early? Don't want to complain but it's not how I planned it..

Warner seems to ship at least some titles very early. I got March of the Penguins delivered to Europe about 10 days early.

What are the chances that Amazon will ship early?

Who is going to be the first posting his or her impressions?
I guess we are going to have to wait for a review on this one since this box is 4 discs and 11 episodes. A lot of material to review in just one day.
I have also noticed that nobody posts screeen shots of documentary material.

Any word on the codec used?

Anyone who pre-ordered from dvdpacific and is in the US should have it anyday now. Or maybe they just ship out the overseas orders early as they know it may take 5-14 days to arrive?

Ive watched on the BBC in hd using high bitrate h264 which was supurb quality. Not expecting these discs to look much better tbh.

Mine shipped too - I had this series recorded in AVC from SkyHD last year. Really fantastic show. I'm glad the HD DVDs have the original David Attenborough naration.

Looking forward!

I wonder why the US domestic TV changes the original narators to an American actor.
Wasn't this with Walking With Dinosaurs as well? Is it the "accent"? I really didn't like Sigourney's naration on this one. Maybe James Earl Jones should had been choosen.

How about giving this thread a purpose and posting impressions? The fact that it shipped or arrived is of little use to the public if not followed by a review.

Ditto...I don't understand why so many threads consist of "my copy arrived yesterday..." and that's it....don't you have anything to say about this much anticipated release? Anyone going to watch their copies? I know if I get mine and no other comments are made I'll gladly post my own thoughts about it!

sorry to hear that. i hate those bastards (customs). f'ing pirates is what they are.

anyway, i think movietyme is subject to customs as well (i just got a customs note for my PS3 from them). no where is safe :(

I'm ecstatic that you got your copy but at least post some details from the outside of the box, like audio codecs, run time, the color, current weather conditions, anything.
Sheesh.

my follow up post was just to indicate that although buying it from dvdpacific was the cheapest. After import duty it certainly wasnt and to give others who havent ordered it a chance to get it elsewhere.

As for PQ, thats subjective. 1 mans horse crap is another mans manure.

this thread needs closing...........im off the watch a few episodes. Will try and grab a few screens and post em in the other thread.......

It appears that all the early receivers of the HD DVDs had to sign a NDA or the mail guy wouldn't have handed them the parcel. ;)
