hey guys, about to pull the trigger on a 46" 1080p lcd hdtv (samsung 4665). next thing on my list is which console to purchase. for a couple of years, i really didn't do any console gamings. i got caught up in pc games and the whole mmorpg thing. last christmas, i was bored of pc games and picked up a wii. the innovative controls were fun for a while, but it was fleeting. within months, i became bored of it. the mediocre graphics and the lack of online play didn't help either. the wii just fueled my desire to purchase either an xbox 360 or ps3. forward to now, i'm left with a dilemma: which console to purchase first? i know eventually, i'm going to end up with both. here are my options:

1. buy tv + ps3 now (enjoy blu-ray and hd tv now). buy 360 elite at the end of month.
or
2. buy tv + 360 elite at end of month and wait to buy ps3 later (possible price drop, more games.)

decisions, decisions! first post here, be kind. sorry it's kinda long. i usually visit and read. community is nice though. :)
i just read a thread and mk2 with online play is offered through the psn. so i guess i'll buy the ps3 now. lol

Get a 360 now and wait for the PS3. I've got both, and all I use my PS3 for is movies. But I'm really enjoying gaming on the Xbox right now.

Both are great systems. 360 has more stuff to play right now, but if you're jumping in fresh, there are plenty of PS3 titles that would keep you busy until the anticpated stuff comes out. I still play Resistance and NBA 2K7 religiously and they've been out since launch. You can't make a bad decision, especially if you're planning on getting both eventually anyway.

ENJOY!

Buy the HDTV (why Samsung?) and the PS3 now. At the end of the month, buy a kick ass surround sound setup.

Motorstorm for PS3 is highly addictive for me. Love the Blu-Ray from the PS3 as well :)

This is like the "should I buy a Mac or PC" questions. The answer is the same, buy the one which runs the software you plan to use. Figure out which games you want to play and buy that system first, then buy the other one later on.

Also, make sure you look at the 4665F in person somewhere and verify it will work in your viewing environment. It really does have a massive glare issue. You might want to try the 4661 for similar features with a matte screen.

what's wrong with samsung When you watch HDTV (movies or HD broadcast), it gives off a pastey look on most people's faces. You won't notice it when you play games though.

Most people are attracted by how bright Samsung's LCDs are within their price range.

Depends on how long you will wait before buying the 2nd console. If you will buy the 2nd one within one year then I would get the 360 now and then the PS3. But if it will be more than a year I would make a list of the exclusive games for each console scheduled to come out in that time frame and buy the console with the games you have to play right away.

I own both and enjoy both. While it is true that the 360 has more games there aren't necessarily that many more AAA titles that are 360 exclusives right now. But it just depends on what you like to play. I think the PS3 will have more exclusive AAA titles at the end of the year. Yes it is speculation but it could very well happen.

Make sure you get a sound system like someone else mentioned.

Also, consider a 720p tv if it will save you a significant amount of money that you could put towards the audio. Generally speaking if it is less than 50" it will be difficult to see the detail in 1080p, but it depends on your viewing distance of course.

Consider plasma! Great for gaming as long as you are half way responsible.

Good post. I chose lcd, as I tend not to be half way responsible (I just want to turn on & play) also I wanted the higher resolution (there's 1080p plasmas available now).

And if you decide to get a 360, get an instore extended warranty.

Hmmm. I just checked the price of the Samsung. It's about the same as an SXRD 60". I'd say go with SXRD.

I can tell you from experience that the minute amount of extra care you have to put into a plasma's early life is well worth it vs. gaming on an LCD. I've had the Sony SXRD, XBR3 and the Pioneer 5070 and the plasma is by far the best gaming experience out of all of them. Zero motion blur, color contrast is amazing, black levels allow you to actually see shadow detail. It's an amazing experience and I highly recommend it over gaming on an LCD.

That said, it obviously all comes down to personal preference. Go to your local HDTV dealer and just look at stuff. Buy the one YOU like.

Smoke more crack. I've had a 50" plasma running the PS3 at 720p and now a 47" LCD running 1080p. I can definately tell the difference. HUGE with blu-ray.
