I've placed an order for a Samsung LN-S4092D which won't ship till mid-June due to stock issues; though the price is worth the wait. And in helping my father find a replacement for his dead DLP I discovered the Panasonic TH-42PH9UK. On 'paper' I have a hard time not cancelling my LCD order and picking up the Panny and I've yet to find the Panny locally. But I'm looking for a little advice (for both my father and I).

My uses:
HDTV, Movie(will be getting an Oppo upconverting player) and some gaming(xbox)

My father:
TV(likely no HD source), some gaming (when little bro is in town) and minimal movies

Neither one of us have alot of light in our rooms, in fact I've been using an old 27in Sony Trinitron CRT(sold my other TV for financing) and althought I see some reflections with the TV off I don't notice anything once I actually start watching something, I'm also not against pulling the blinds when I need to. Any thoughts?

Thanks, k.

LCD
No "break in" needed.
No second thought to how about how long one plays video games or watches TV with side bars.
Can watch all hours of the day with same PQ
Lighter in weight (especially at that size) Important if you need to move it. Many can doe it by them self. I needed another for the 42" Plasma and mounted the 47" LCD myself.
No reflections
Contrasts can be set as hgh as you want if you actually enjoy vivid a picture.
You can put it on its side to travel negating the need for a truck.
Proven technology who's R&D is targeted on ever better PQ ( like off axis viewing and black levels (which all TV makers are improving) not preventing the ruination of a TV preventing burn in and IR

Don't need an EW the technology. On notebook LCDs are well proven technology and they are are on for hours with static images and operate in all kinds of temperature conditions.

1080P resolution

PLASMA
Better black levels. But not terribly noticeable except under lights off conditions if you consider yourself a "videophile" this will make the plasma your choice. If you will be watching the PQ more then the content, Plasma all the way.

Plasmas have more cooling fans.

Can heat your room in the winter! Exaggeration but it does run hot and use more energy. (Heat dissipates energy) hence uses more fans.

Looks more like CRT. Some think thats a good thing.

Waning market. Someone knows something they are not telling as LCD has passed plasma in sales (see number 1 re" videophiles".

I had both albeit lower end brands and chose the LCD.

Disclaimer: I am an average Joe. TV and movie watching is not a hobby, I am not a videophile, I a regular TV watcher who watches TV when bored and mostly DVR recordings and Movies. I do not buy the "best" in anything as determined by others with difference needs. Always the one I chose based on what I see unless it has to do with safety. My first HD TV was a 42" Maxent (becasue it has Panasonic glass) MX series. Now have a 47" Vizio LCD and do not feel I'm missing a thing. Never bought an Extended Warranty on anything and am well ahead of the game.

I just picked up the Samsung 4053 and I love it. I too was trying to decide between LCD and Plasma and ended up going with LCD, primarily because of these factors:
- No glare
- Lighter
- Runs cooler/less energy (the 4053 has an energy star rating)
- Great connections on the unit I chose
- I actually liked the picture on the 40" LCDs vs the 42" Plasma's when comparing side-by-side (same went for 46" LCD vs. 50" Plasma, as I was in the hunt for those at one time as well)
