After much thought and preparation, I just realized that I designed my 360 to go in my AV closet. It will be 15-20 feet behind the theater inside of a closed door. Now I'm worried the controllers won't respond. Does anyone have this setup? I'm using a Buffalo IR Repeater to push all the IR signals into the AV room, but forgot about the 360's controllers being bluetooth. I really don't want to have equipment in the actual theater if possible. Ideas? Thanks.

I have seen them work at this distance but your battery life becomes more critical.

I have a similar situation in my house where I've got all my distributed audio and video components in a closet about 30 ft from my living room TV. The controller effectively goes through a bathroom to the closet and works pretty well. That being said, If I sit with a large recliner between me and the closet, it doesn't work as well. Also, my upstairs TV, which does share the output, cannot get a signal with the controller.
Long story short, you may be ok, but your seating may pose a problem. I'll be relocating my XBox to a new rack when I get further along in my theater to eliminate the problem (hopefully), as well as running some wired controllers for the theater.

They'll be fine. I have my equipment rack in a different room about the same distance away and no problems at all. I think they're rated for about 30-35 feet. They used 802.11b technology. The battery life is better than expected.

From the website:
"Integrated 2.4 GHz high-performance wireless technology lets you control the action from up to 30 feet away."

Thanks everyone, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

It's not actually 802.11b, but something proprietary that is smart / similar enough to operate in the same freq range as 802.11 stuff without causing a problem. (You can get IIRC 4x consoles each with 4 controllers in the same area without conflicts)

Got it. I interpreted the 2.4GHz as 802.11b. Thanks for the info.

My 360 is in the equipment closet about 8-10 feet behind me.
No problems at all.
