View Full Version : Will we be able to use Remote Play to play PS3 games on the PSP?

I know they just added some remote play functionality with the 1.6 update, but I was wondering if we will be able to, in the future, play our PS3 games this way. I would love to be able to take my PSP with me to campus or something and be able to play Oblivion while I wait for class or something.

I think it would be too laggy.

I think the psp is structured quite differently than the ps3. My guess would be it wont happen. Being able to access Home from your psp would be nice tho.

How would a PS3 be able to pass a full 20+ GB PS3 game to a PSP so the PSP could play it remotely (please don't say compression)? I think you may be far overestimating what the PS3-->PSP connection will be.

I think there is a PSP Oblivion game you could play, but don't plan on taking your full-blown PS3 Oblivion game to school on your PSP. The feature you would like would be nice, though. :)

Maybe on the PSP 2 which hopefully will have a Cell processor in it along with Wimax, 802.11n, and a mini 1080P 16X9 screen, plus it should have a mini projector on the back, so you can project your game on a wall.

I don't know, it might be possible technically but like aldamon said would probably be way too laggy. The PS3 would do all the work of actually running the game and just pass the video output along to the PSP the same way it streams a video. I don't think this will ever happen though.

How about playing PSP games on the PS3? I've asked this question a few times around the net with no real answer.. When the new Castlevania comes out, I'd love to play it on a television :)

Absolutely, positively, NO.

Why? You have a game that is designed for the Cell processor utilizing 5-25g of space. How could that even work on the PSP using a PS2 processor with a max of what 8gb of space?

The only thing close would maybe the ability to stream an ingame video ala "checkout this lap I did on GTHD". But gameplay? No way.

That's a good one. So far the PSP has trouble keeping up with the remote connection. I mean, have you seen the visual quality of "remote play" (when does the 'play' start?)? It's wretched. It makes me want to smash the PSP into a wall it's so bad. I remember when it was supposed to be a controller for the PS3. If this is what they meant, then they need a good slapping (sony marketing).

Depending on the game, it might work.

Obviously it won't be "playing the game on the PSP", it'll be using the PSP as a controller and video monitor (letting you control the PS3 using the PSP and having the video sent to the PSP). The F1 video shown with the PSP as a rear view mirror looked pretty nice - it didnt seem to really lag behind the PS3 video feed, and thats a fast game.

Ones that need exact button presses will obviously not work, but it'd be nice to use on some games like Little Bit Planet.

There are settings to adjust this (either a faster stream or a higher quality) - adjusting it right can return some pretty decent results if I remember correctly.

Umm? PSP is barley a PS2, how do you think that it will be able to run PS3 games? Please use your common sense!

IMO, the feature would cool, but unfortunately our little PSP's are no where near the power of PS3. It is possible to set certain games to go along with some PS3 games.

Now the remote feature over any WiFi hotspot is pretty cool.

Yes, remote play in the house is useless. It would be nice if I could fire up the PSP as a remote to play music on my system without having to fire up the monitor for the PS3. But noooo the audio comes out of the PSP speakers : how handy! AND I have to choose remote play on the PS3. What a pain. Awful. Just awful. Imagine playing a game with the PSP, as well. That one stick should be great for modern games. rearview mirror? Are you going to hang the PSP from your ceiling in front of you? Or just put it in your lap and keep looking down? The PSP hardly ever gets used by me anymore. Most of that is from the single stick, and the fact that I'll always be limited to playing games on a wee screen. Sure, there are 3rd party adaptors that look like crap, but.. Sony could have a winner here, but I don't see it happening.

The PSP would simply be used as a monitor for the PS3, why is this so difficult for people to understand? Of course the PSP doesn't have the technology necessary to play a real PS3 game. DUH!. But that isn't what the OP is talking about. He's talking about just using the PSP as the video display, and as the controller. I honestly don't see why this wouldn't be possilbe. Of course, the lack of two analog sticks would be the main problem. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any PS3 games that only use 1 analog stick. So that would be a pretty big problem right there. And of course the PSP has no sixaxis abilities.

I'm also not too sure about having your PS3 stream this wirelessly to your PSP if you are in a totally different place. Maybe somewhere in the same house or something, but you would need to have your PS3 turned on, and it would be nice if the PSP could remotely turn it off, when you are done playing. I would love to play some Motorstorm on my PSP while snugging under the covers, lol.

We played with remote stuff here at my house and even if it was just screen updates like a win 2k Terminal server or Metaframe thin client it is still too much. It just wasnt fast enough even loading pics or music.

It also just plan didn't let us load any games. Gives you some message that it woun't allow it.
