Title..... I thought that the PS3 was going to get point cards like the 360 and Wii. I don't want to give up my CC #.

Anyone ? This seems like something that someone knows about.

They're available in Japan aren't they. Don't know about a US release.

Get a virtual CC number from your bank. It's a one time use number as it expires after you use it once.

Sony doesn't use points.

I thought they were implementing points though??? I'm pretty sure that's the case.

OOOPS, my mistake.

That's right, they're not POINTS cards.

They ARE coming out with PSN cards but they have a monetary value, like a gift card.

Yea I would much rather give my CC# to the guy at Best Buy and buy a set amount of pretend currency that might be too much or too little of what I want to buy with my real money. Its so great when I had my 360 and I had to buy 1600 points at a time for $20 at Target and I only needed 20 more points for a download.

I just use one of my cards that I use for odds & ends internet stuff. Visa/mastercard have pretty good policies at protection. No way would I ever use a check card on something like this or even my "main" CC.

Anyone have any updates on when the US PSN Cards will be introduced? I see a few things I want to get, but I'd prefer not using my CC for those purchases.

Of course, the benefit of points cards is that they are frequently on sale. Circuit City had a deal recently where you could buy one 360 accessory for $20 or more and get $20 off a second accessory. The points cards counted! I went down there with $20 in hand and I walked out with 2 $20 1600 points cards. I then went over to Best Buy and price matched the deal. And when I pre-ordered Halo 3 at Best Buy, I got a 1600 point card for $5. That's $100 worth of points for only $45.

Now, whenever I buy stuff on Live, I am basically getting everything for 55% off. :)

If you only want to buy one thing, then yeah, they suck. But if you want to stock up when the points are cheap, it is basically like getting free money.

Hopefully when the PS3 cards come out, they will also go on sale.

Edit: Sorry, didn't see that this was a bumped old post.

what irks me is that when psn first opened, you could put exact amounts on your account. why they chnged that i'll never understand... or agree with.

You can buy 'gift cards' with the visa or mastercard logo as a workaround.

You can still do that. Now they have it so if you put something in your cart and go to checkout without having money in your account, it will ask you if you want to add the amount from the CC# they have on file. I like it better this way since now you don't have to leave the store, go to your account management, add the funds, go back to the store, go back to the cart and make your purchase.
