Not sure how many people are going to order this tomorrow with the 4/15 anniversary thingy tomorrow but with some BD folks also following suit, it will be interesting to see if either one can break the top 10! That would be amazing giving they are relatively pricy documentaries.

I for one and not getting it. I'm watching it now on DiscoveryHD. Figure if I get it, I might as well pick it up at a later date after I haven't seen it in a while.

Looking forward to reading comparisons to broadcast. Looks great but obviously not perfect.

I think I'm about to finally break down and order this one. I watched the first three episodes a few weeks back and was absolutely blown away with some of the shots. Definitely some good demo material!

Although this set is going to look very nice indeed I think you all should be aware of certain things.

1. Both the HD-DVD and BluRay releases share the exact same encodes so if and when we all start the 'Which version looks better' debate we needn't bother as it would be pretty pointless.

2.The show itself was recorded ,(not filmed as it was shot on tape, sorry if I'm being pedantic but i think it matters), at 25 fps 720p, so what you're getting on your HD-DVD / BluRay is an upscaled frame rate converted 1080p VC1 encode with all the glitches associated with said conversions.

3. There are no extras as the BBC wanted only HD material on the discs which I personally feel is ripping us all off as they will be re-releasing at a later date another version with HD extras.

and lastly LOTR will be coming on HD-DVD FACT.

Man - Amazon sent emails to so many of you for the BR version? Yech!

Good thing the HD DVD version is still outselling.

I can understand though - Amazon has got some rificulously high stock levels right now on the BD stuff, I think BD was trying to get a high "shipped" number for some of their titles and convinvced Amazon they'd sell - - :p

There are no extras as the BBC wanted only HD material on the discs which I personally feel is ripping us all off as they will be re-releasing at a later date another version with HD extras. There weren't any extras when I saw them on SkyHD either. Nor will they be releasing some other version with extras. This is not a typical movie release. This show was a very special one-off.

and lastly LOTR will be coming on HD-DVD FACT.now THAT'S something I can agree with wholeheartedly!! :p

They will do this based on previous purchases.

Just curious. How do you know? Also, will it include IME? And lastly, will it be on Blu-ray without IME? Or will Blu-ray be delayed, same as with The Matrix. Thanks for the info.

I haven't seen this or read about it yet, so pardon my ignorance. What is it about, is it about various locations throughout the world shot in HD, or is it like an educational series on evolution or something?

Kinda like...both. Its more informative about the lifestyles, lifecycles, consequences and process that animals in all walks of like in every type of climate live through. I have seen a few episodes on my HD reciever on Directv and man...the more I see it...the more I am thinking about buying this package.

For any HD fanatic this is a must have disc set. Not only it has some never or rarely seen before, incredible footage of scenery and animal life, it also seems to be of pretty good quality even when broadcast and being documentary, it could be watched many times over without loosing it's appeal, just for eye candy. I'm not surprised this show is selling well and actually I would expect it to be in top ten at some point, since right now it's only pre sale. I have to admit, this is the first time ever I ordered anything, before it was available for sale. I don't see what the problem people have with show being recorded at 25 frames/sec. Every single movie is recorded at 24 frames a second, why would 25 frames be so bad??????
As far as LOTR goes, it looked pretty good as broadcast, should look awesome on a disc.

You can check on Amazon and you will see there a 14 minutes preview video of the 11 episodes you will find in the set.
This is the best way to get an idea of what to expect regarding content.
