This looks like a step in the right direction:

There was no comparable advertisement for BR disks.

The prices on the top row are well comparable to ordering from Amazon.com for Canadians.

Last weekend I picked up Batman Begins, Serenity and Casablanca from FS for $70 including tax!

Keep it coming FS!

On the other hand, isn't this soooo 2006:

Future Shop has been actively advertising the A2 and HD DVD. Only problem is I went to their store to pick up Children of Men and it was priced at approx. $49.95!!! What a joke.

Futureshop can be very erratic. I found The Sting (HD-DVD) last week marked for $9.99, while Waist Deep was still $54

You never know what you will get in terms of pricing.

Just wait for the deals.

for me it's still way better for to shop at amazon.com, especially with the 10% dicsount:

WITH the 10% discount, a $20 HDDVD gets $2 off, but has $2 shipping. end price, US$20 or about C$23
at FS, the same DVD goes for about C$24, after tax it's C$27.35.

now you can play around with the numbers a bit; the first disc you order has $6 shipping, so you can divide that extra $4 among the additional discs. or maybe you don't have the 10% coupon. i dunno. but for me, amazon.com is the way to go.

best buy had a sale going on a couple weeks ago (maybe it's still on, i don't know), where a bunch of BluRays were C$20. however they were mainly the same discs that amazon.com had on sale a month before that, so i didn't get any.

I agree with your math analysis VR but you gotta admit this is a step in the right direction.

They just have to ask themselves WTF they are doing with the $40+ and $50+ pricing of some disks.

BTW A&B Sound has now started to stock a few titles at semi-reasonable prices.

I will still be ordering some wanted titles tomorrow from Amazon.com to celebrate the first anniversary of the format (and to get them at very reasonable prices).

I saw Mimai Vice fo $54.00 at FS in Kingston and a few days later I saw it for $37 at a FS in Ottawa. I should have had the Kingston store phone their Ottawa store for a price match! :D

Cheers,

Grant

Yes, but come on Grant $37.00 is still a kick in the head.

Good see that they're atleast advertising HD DVD

I haven't looked in the past couple weeks, but before that there wasn't even a mention of the word HD DVD (except for the DVD version saying that it was available on HD DVD)

Also Futureshops availbility of new titles also varies from week to week.

Yeah, it doesn't actually cost that much. It's actually 36 or 37 bucks, for some reason they place the estimated retail price on the item rather than the actual price. Go up to the register and ask for a price check, you'll see.

They do that with a lot of titles. So always make sure to double check anything that seems obscenely priced. Chances are they have the wrong price on the front (god forbid they should price it correctly and make a sale)

FS has good price on recent release. I got Happy Feet on BluRay for 26.99$ witch is pretty good. Casino Royale was 29.99$ and price 32.99$ everywhere else

Happy Feet for HD DVD was priced 31.99$.. more than BR version but that's a Combo Disc so it's pretty cheap compared to Smoking Aces..

alot of times the FS Sticker price is wrong. you need to ask them to scan it, if you've seen it at other locations for cheaper, or online for cheaper. then when they scan it, the lower price comes up.
