View Full Version : "Trinity and Beyond" HD maybe?
shadowrage 04-15-07, 03:06 AM Just saw this movie on Discovery HD Theater and loved every minute of it. I reall want the uncut version in Hi-def. This movie looked good for being made up of film exposed to nuclear fall out.
Check out the details of the source material http://dhd.discovery.com/convergence/trinity/trinity.html (2nd paragraph)
-they make it sound like its the most awesom transfer ever. the numbers they give support it.
Trinity and Beyond is the first in a Trilogy of films about nuclear weapons testing, Narrated by William Shatner. "The Atomic Bomb Movie" would make a perfect HD companion to "Planet Earth". the two contrast quite well.
Anyway watch this if you can.
Even better let me know if you can find any of these in HD at all.
brywalker 04-15-07, 10:25 AM This was one of the most horrific documentaries I have ever seen. I have never been so scared in all my life.
I REALLY hope it comes out.
Transferred at 1920x2980/23.98 (24p) progressively scanned and color corrected by Senior colorist Gary Barron at Technicolor. Recorded to a D5 with 4:4:4 color space (highest color quality currently available). Including Interior Gallery digital still store (for maintaining color integrity an balance throughout film). The film was then converted into a large 10-bit uncompressed Quicktime movie (about 880 GB) and further clean up and enhancements were done."
Damn!
cadbury8 04-15-07, 12:44 PM just wow. Put on the ray-bans and slap on some sun tan lotion to watch this one.
we are gonna get some WTW complaints when this comes out. lol
....but will it come 3D glasses?
shadowrage 04-15-07, 01:49 PM Good to see I'm not the only one that would want this on HD-DVD.
Would you really need 3D glasses with this? Does 3-D work well with HD material.
I mean most good transfers look 3D by themselves.
When I saw this movie I felt like I was watching Jackass: World Anihilation. It makes you feel a little sick, but you can't stop watching. This presentation is also really well done.
egcarter 04-15-07, 04:21 PM It is an amazing production. The footage is kreepy with a capital 'K'.
LazerViking 04-15-07, 04:35 PM This is absolutely my favorite documentaries. Nothing scares me more than the footage of China's nuclear test, Mao-era China was some frightening stuff. I am all for this on an HD format, the D-HD was spectacular and filled up the room with some of the most vibrant reds and oranges I've ever seen in a film.
jimbology 04-15-07, 04:45 PM snip ... filled up the room with some of the most vibrant reds and oranges I've ever seen in a film.
My wife walked in and said 'How come the room is so orange?' :D This was a brilliant documentary but I'm not sure I could sit through it again. I grew up in this era and I had to go through 'duck and cover' drills in school and I was scared to death. It should get an HD optical media release despite my own personal feelings.
PULSAR3002 04-15-07, 04:50 PM This was one of my first buys during the early DVD days. It scared me then and seeing it in HD on a 61" really got the point accross. I lived in Alamogordo where they did the dry run for Trinity so it really made it creepy. I will buy the HD version also when this hits the shelf.
khellandros66 04-15-07, 08:32 PM Only if you have Al Gores Environmentally Safe Approval
LMAO Otherwise you can't have the two together in a single collection...that wouldn't be kosher.

I would love to see the entire Series in Hd DVD. Trinity and Beyond, Nukes in Space, Atomic Journeys, Atomic Filmmakers and Nuclear Rescue 911.
I just hope we never suffer the consequences of our current Mine Shaft Gap...... :)

I loved it but as far as disturbing documentarys go, the most disturbing for me was called a path to genocide or somthing along those lines, about the genocide in rawanda where about 1,000,000 people were killed in a month with anything that could be used as a weapon. Very disturbing
shadowrage 04-15-07, 11:51 PM I saw hotel Rawanda. But I don't feel that would be as concerning to most Americas as most African Genocides are so far away with little to no news coverage(Darfur).
But the threat of nuclear war has always been very real to everyone, not to mention a few hundred nuclear bombs were dropped in someones backyard.
And I really don't want to see 1mil. real corpses in HD(at all for that matter). But Shindler's black and white probably look beautiful in HD, the red would really pop out.

It certainly was. I was looking for this on amazon, and it said it was released in Oct. of 2006. But the new HD transfer is awesome. I figured I would post this hear since the HD DVD side of HD media seems more interested in this sort of thing.
Excellent story. I recorded it on my Symbio :)
Not only an excellent documentary, it's supposed to be scary!
The irony is that even though we know any real nuclear exchange is unthinkable and would be cataclysmic to human civilization and world ecology, we are still fascinated & awed by photos & films of "the cloud".
And I too am of the age to remember fallout shelters, the Cuban missile crisis and "duck & cover" drills. I think this movie should be shown in all schools to show every generation the potential horrors of nuclear weapons. We all throw the term "nuke 'em" around so casually, we tend to forget the reality of what these weapons are about. This movie is the perfect companion to Dr. Strangelove & Fail-Safe. In case it matters, I still believe using the bomb to end WWII was the right thing to do.
I have this movie taped from cable and was planning on getting it on DVD, but maybe I should wait....

If memory serves me correct, I believe it came with 3D glasses. It must have been re-released in 2006 because I purchased it when I moved to Florida about 7-8 years ago.
