It doesn't look like the war is over yet. According to this site http://www.hdgamedb.com/amazon/versus.aspx , HD DVD is pushing back ahead in the sales ranking at Amazon. I know all of the arguments against using this data as though it were definitive, and agree that skepticism should be used. However, it is still an indicator of consumer interest. Just as the last few months the site indicated that Bluray was ahead with more new releases and the spike in interest that appeared to be caused by PS3 sales.

Well HD DVD sure do, but that doesn't mean it's leading anything, the only ' Real and Plausible' data we have is Niesel Videoscan, witch of last week showed a 67% BluRay and 33% HD DVD is sales.

And remember, there's nothing coming out next week... it will be nice to see the amazon thing on april 20th... well there's a bunch of old catalogs title on both (+ smoking aces, but it did so bad i don't think it will count) witch only are a blimp on the radar..

Planet Earth is doing great in both format!

So, which ever is more favorable to BD is the "real and plausible" data source?

The spike is due to the April 15th HD-DVD anniversary buy going on. There is a thread on it. Hundreds of HD-DVD owners are partaking. Either way, it is great to see. Interesting to see if the charts crash tomorrow and the coming weeks due to so many people doing this.

I still have to make my purchase today!

DD DVD 148
BD 276

Avg. ranking for top 10 at 12:22 PM EST. Even if this doesn't hold, I believe this is the highest ranking we've seen for HD DVD on Amazon ever!

It's nice that it happened on the one year anniversary of the launch of the format.

Certainly a nice bounce back from the Dog Days of Feb and March....

Kinda illustrates just how few people are actually buying this stuff.

Like they say...every journey starts with the first step. But you're right in that we are closer to the start-line than the middle of the race :)

This is also the effect of all the HD DVD hardware sales from the last few weeks from BB, CC and VE. From what I have seen, heard and read hardware sales are very brisk. The PS3 has had the same effect for BDA. What this shows is getting the hardware into the hands of the average consumer and software sales will follow. This applys to either side. This only helps us early adopters of High Def. With prices being driven down at a neck breaking pace. Software quality going up. More features being added on both sides.

Talk is cheap. We'll see how many of them actually drop $300 or more to watch content that's free on TV.
See post #6, but more importantly try to remember this is bits of data on plastic discs. Not world hunger, politics, heart disease or anything else in the world that actually matters.

That's the Blu-Ray player forum. Does the same rules not apply to you?

I was there for Blu-Ray, and it had HDDVD in the title anyway. Entirely different thing.

DVDs of TV shows are a huge market. Nothing would surprise me with people and the TV shows that they like.

Just look at Planet Earth. It's free on TV but it's been the #1 title for both formats for a few weeks now. (HD DVD version at #11 on Amazon rankings right now)
